Is this part of the government plan or a great example of their incompetence?

No strategic planning whatsoever.

This country will be a total mess by the end of this year.

The PNM is an amazing well oiled machine. All they need to do here is set the stage (create the narrative that open borders means Delta, Knowing Delta is here). Then Open the borders and the spin begins. A few weeks after declare the Delta variant is here. Blame "irresponsible travelers" who went Miami to shop and party.

Now its "IRRESPONSIBLE TRINIs" and not an incompetent Gov that suffered the population for no reason while allowing UK, Brazil and Indian variants in. Its quite Brilliant.
Now if they would only apply that brilliance to actually doing some good for the country ...

Part of the narrative?

Remember masks don't really protect much against new variants maybe against the Wuhan strain but not these cloth masks and it really stifling to talk with a mask on

Guys there's honestly no escaping these new variants, please just go get vaccinated and encourage those most at risk to.

Also, those who have taken vaccines especially Sinopharm please remember you can still spread it quite easily so continue to wear masks especially when indoors with others.

Europe wants to stop the Covid delta variant. But experts say it may already be too late

PUBLISHED WED, JUN 30 20214:32 AM EDTUPDATED 3 HOURS AGO

KEY POINTS

The coronavirus delta variant first discovered in India has now spread around the world, prompting further waves of infections in countries like the U.K.

Now, there are increasing signs that mainland Europe is seeing a sharp rise in cases too.

There have been calls to ban British visitors in order to hep stop the spread of the variant, but experts say it’s likely already widespread on the continent.

LONDON — The coronavirus delta variant first discovered in India has now spread around the world, prompting further waves of infections in countries like the U.K.
Now, there are increasing signs that mainland Europe is seeing a sharp rise in cases too.

The EU is certainly worried about the spread of the highly infectious delta variant which evidence suggests is around 60% more transmissible than the alpha variant first found in England, causes more hospitalizations and slightly reduces the efficacy of vaccines.
A number of European countries have introduced further restrictions on visitors from the U.K., but experts believe it’s only a matter of time before it takes off in mainland Europe — and there are strong signals it already has.
On Tuesday, French Health Minister Olivier Veran said that the delta variant now represents some 20% of Covid-19 cases in France, up from last week’s estimate of it representing 9-10% of cases.
Germany’s public health body, the Robert Koch Institute, said this week that the delta variant accounted for around 36% of the cases in the week of June 15 - 20, up 15% from the week before. Lothar Wieler, president of the RKI, also told officials the variant now already represents more than 50% of registered cases in Germany, Deutsche Welle reported Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Italy’s national health institute said Friday that cases attributed to Covid variants delta and kappa (a “variant of interest,” according to the World Health Organization, that’s related to the delta variant) have surged in Italy in the past month, accounting for nearly 17% of total Covid cases.

Spain and Portugal have also reported a rise in delta variant cases as have Poland, Russia, Switzerland and Turkey. In addition, the delta plus variant — a mutation of the delta mutation — has been detected in pockets of Europe too.
Read more: Delta Covid variant has a new mutation called ‘delta plus’: Here’s what you need to know

Too little, too late?

Germany and France are among the countries that have imposed quarantine restrictions on British travelers and Berlin has gone one step further, calling on the EU to take a unified approach when it comes to requiring British travelers who come to the bloc to quarantine.
The move could likely be a case of acting too little, too late, experts note.
“I doubt if European countries with their open economies and more limited border checks, quarantine measures and tracking and tracing will be able to push back delta for long ... especially given that there is extensive local circulation already,” Tom Wenseleers, an evolutionary biologist and biostatistician at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, told CNBC Tuesday.
He noted that the actual number of infections in Europe caused by the delta variant could be much higher than estimates currently suggest.
“I estimate that in Portugal 90% of the diagnosed cases now may be delta, but with a strong geographic focus around Lisbon. Many other countries in Europe, like Spain, Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg, Sweden and the Netherlands are not far behind though, with over 50% of all diagnosed cases now also estimated to be delta there,” he noted.

The delta variant now accounts for 95% of all new cases sequenced in the U.K. and where Britain goes, it’s likely that the U.S. and Europe will follow, experts believe. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said last week that it estimates that by the end of August the delta variant will represent 90% of all Covid viruses circulating in the EU.

Vaccination to the rescue?

Covid vaccination programs could come to the rescue if countries in Europe can deploy shots fast enough. A study by Public Health England in May showed that having both doses of the Covid vaccines developed by AstraZeneca-Oxford University and Pfizer-BioNTech (the vaccines most widely offered in Europe) provide effective protection against the delta variant. Both vaccines were significantly less effective after only one shot, however.
As such, the race is now on in Europe to fully vaccinate millions of people and particularly the young who have been the last in line to receive a Covid shot. Data again from England shows that the young, unvaccinated, over-50s and people who have only had one dose of a Covid vaccine are the most at risk from infection by the delta variant.

VIDEO06:20

Why your next holiday in Europe will change

KU Leuven’s Wenseleers agreed that “vaccinating at maximum speed and asking people in particular risk groups to still exert caution will likely be the main options now” for the EU, “although more intensive border checks and tracking and tracing could help to buy some time until the vaccination campaign has progressed more, which will help to prevent resurgences,” he added.

The wider economy

Trouble is already brewing in the EU over the outlook for the summer tourism season and whether to let Brits and others into the region particularly when, for a number of EU countries like Greece and Portugal, tourism is a key component of their economies.
How a potential new wave of delta-variant infections affects the region’s wider economy and reopening is also yet to be seen, but economists are keeping a close eye on it.

Hello aaron,

Most of those masks are ineffective, so to me it doesn’t matter whether its on or off.

We continue to fail in this pandemic and each and every single time we will be caught with our pants down.

The mask with the necessary and respective protocols would help. When you disregard one you put yourself and others in harm's way.

People of T&t need to understand why the taxi men gt. They never come and blame the unc and kamla and talk about how kamla tief 10 years ago. The had their issue and they stick to it, no ifs, ands, buts or maybes. "We want to raise to 75% full stop" . They didn't come and say "well you know the govt trying they best, they doing a good job, we know it hard it hard for them eh". No, none of that nonsense like the chamber of industry and commerce and those kinda people.

Place take note T&t, stick to the issue, unc is irrelevant and stop fearing victimization.

We get a little bit of hope courtesy taxi men.

EU casts doubt on EUROS finals after spread of Delta Variant in UK
On Wednesday, Bloomberg published the latest in a series of stories effectively re-stating the same facts: the vaccination rate in a handful of deep-red states has substantially lagged the rate in the rest of the country. The lead-in for Wednesday's story was the fact that the gap between the most- and least-vaccinated states has continued to widen. Though even Bloomberg concedes that "on a national level, the news appears good...the country's vaccination campaign is among the most successful in the world..."

Source: Bloomberg

One academic quoted in the Bloomberg story, Timothy Callaghan, who studies rural health at Texas A&M, warned that "we're going to have counties where vaccination is rare and nowhere close to herd immunity, and others where it's high. We could be headed toward a divided country of haves and have nots."

They also warned that an analysis last week of COVID cases in 700 counties found that the new delta variant first identified in India (which, according to Bloomberg, is "far more contagious") has been found more often in less-vaccinated US counties.

But is the Delta variant really "far more contagious" than earlier iterations of SARS-CoV-2?

In a recent piece published by the Blaze, writer Daniel Horowitz explains that the existing data suggests Delta isn't any deadlier or more infectious than other strains. Horowitz described the warnings from epidemiologists and public health bureaucrats like Dr. Fauci as "panic porn dressed up as science."

The implication from these headlines is that somehow this variant is truly more transmissible and deadly (as the previous variants were falsely portrayed to be), they escape natural immunity and possibly the vaccine — and therefore, paradoxically, you must get vaccinated and continue doing all the things that failed to work for the other variants!

After each city and country began getting ascribed its own "variant," I think the panic merchants realized that the masses would catch on to the variant scam, so they decided to rename them Alpha (British), Beta (South African), Gamma (Brazilian), and Delta (Indian), which sounds more like a hierarchy of progression and severity rather than each region simply getting hit when it's in season until the area reaches herd immunity.

However, if people would actually look at the data, they'd realize that the Delta variant is actually less deadly. These headlines are able to gain momentum only because of the absurd public perception that somehow India got hit worse than the rest of the world. In reality, India has one-seventh the death rate per capita of the U.S.; it's just that India got the major winter wave later, when the Western countries were largely done with it, thereby giving the illusion that India somehow suffered worse. Now, the public health Nazis are transferring their first big lie about what happened in India back to the Western world.

Fortunately, the U.K. government has already exposed these headlines as a lie, for those willing to take notice. On June 18, Public Health England published its 16th report on "SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern and variants under investigation in England," this time grouping the variants by Greek letters.

As you can see, the Delta variant has a 0.1% case fatality rate (CFR) out of 31,132 Delta sequence infections confirmed by investigators. That is the same rate as the flu and is much lower than the CFR for the ancestral strain or any of the other variants. And as we know, the CFR is always higher than the infection fatality rate (IFR), because many of the mildest and asymptomatic infections go undocumented, while the confirmed cases tend to have a bias toward those who are more evidently symptomatic.

In other words, Delta is literally the flu with a CFR identical to it. This is exactly what every respiratory pandemic has done through history: morphed into more transmissible and less virulent form that forces the other mutations out since you get that one. Nothing about masks, lockdowns, or experimental shots did this. To the extent this really is more transmissible, it's going to be less deadly,

Anyone with medical supply companies made a absolute killing during this pandemic.
Especially those who were monitoring it from November 2019 in China and stockpiled consumables before March 2020 for resale here.

Not many people double masking bro nor do they understand the importance and the logic.

Most people wearing cloth masks like if they cut up a jockey shorts or something.

I dont understand it. These clowns can spend 5000 on a Carnival costume but wearing the cheapest mask only to barely satisfy a protocol.

We must enforce the importance of proper mask wearing.

The Delta variant is more than likely here and we still have not gotten it right.

When people start dropping like flies and rotting by the side of the road, maybe then. But a lil 10, 20 death here and there and a lil 500 cases means nothing and clearly brings no sense of understand to bow serious the situation is.

Trinis asses are still too happy and comfortable.
