Domestic violence up 13.6% in T&T amid pandemic, women out of jobs
Speaking at the launch, Ghany said the pandemic has triggered a huge threat to women’s participation in the workforce.
“Experts are calling it the “she-cession” era where the fear is that more women would remain unemployed once the pandemic is over.”
She warned that companies hoping to progress beyond the pandemic must stop the “she-cession” by finding ways to ensure that more women return to the workforce post-pandemic.
“Picking up the pieces and moving forward cannot come at the expense and disposal of our women from the labour force,” Ghany said.
“We have come too far as a society to be making the same mistakes we did in the past. That’s why I am saying that every company today must increase their diversity mandate and ensure that women are retained in their previous positions,” she added.
However, Ghany said companies must go a step further and begin the process of hiring more women and providing more leadership opportunities for them to succeed professionally once the pandemic is over.
..
IDB Country Manager to Trinidad and Tobago Carina Cockburn contributed to the discourse noting that the pandemic has severely impacted women, especially across six Caribbean countries according to a recent study conducted by her organisation.
“The findings showed that women have reported more job losses during the pandemic than men because of the types of roles and positions that they are employed in,” she said.
“There has been an unfortunate increase in the incidence of reported domestic violence. In Trinidad and Tobago, that increase is estimated at 13.6%. In addition to that, we found that female-headed households have lower financial resilience with no access to bank accounts and savings,” she added.

Best thing to do is call the covid-19 hotline and they will guide you on the way forward.aaron17 wrote:Any feedback on this?aaron17 wrote:I am trying to understand something ..apologies in advance if I don't know. If you are not working...and you were called up by the health ppl that you were in contact with someone with covid. You monitor yourself if you get symptoms. Then time past and you eventually get symptoms. Is it by law for you to go get tested for covid or what?

That would immediately stop people going to gas stations, supermarkets, superpharm, etc, for fast food on a near-daily basis.
It would also stop the recent trend of fast-food restaurants resuming operations under the 'delivery to grocery/gas station' model.

u should get tested
1) for u and your family sake
2) for the country sake as u could have exposed other without knowing - a positive test would trigger contact tracing
it's not law to get tested, but they may quarantine u which means it's law for u to stay home- although if u were in contact with a +ve case u probably already have a quarantine order- but u can leave only to get tested- but DON'T USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT!
