But check the number of patients in ICU and HDU it has been reduced drastically. I think there may be a huge decline in the number of critical patients in the hospitals now and we've seen the bulk of all deaths in the previous weeks.

a decline? that is only because a lot of them dead, and also the addition of pt fortin. within minutes it will be filling up again due to the continued high no of cases.

Wait till tomorrow, I've seen them do this a few times.

Most likely these were 'vacant' as people died. But tomorrow they will be filled again.

increasing bed space only buys time. perhaps days. we still need to reduce the spread. there isn't a reduction in new daily cases yet. only perhaps less than what was the PROJECTED number of cases had we not locked down and declared an SOE. and even those beds are not guaranteed to have adequate care and equipment at this time.

The increase had slowed down, but it's still increasing.

Based on what they said it seems we'll be in a perpetual state of high Covid for the next 3 to 4 months.

10% vaccinations by end of August? That has to be a joke.

10% is pathetic

*Indian seaman dies on ship*

*...Covid suspected*

The Covid-19 virus is suspected to have taken the life of a seaman aboard an oil/chemical tanker anchored in the waters off Brighton, La Brea.
The body of the victim, an Indian national, was taken off the Norwegian-flagged Straum on Tuesday.
A second seaman was transferred from the vessel to the Caura Hospital, with symptoms of the Covid-19 virus.
As of Friday night, the vessel was still anchored in Trinidad and Tobago territorial waters.

According to websites tracking the movement of large vessels, the Straum arrived off La Brea on May 1, after an almost six-day trip from Tampa, Florida.
There were no other ports of call between the United States and Trinidad.
The information on the suspected Covid-19 case was recorded in a police report in the South Western Division.
The report identified the deceased Indian national as Jagdish Ratilal Bamania, who was pronounced dead on board.

He was 44 years old.
Another Indian national, also in his 40s, was taken to hospital, after exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
He is now at the Arima step-down facility.
Police said no one was allowed to disembark the vessel.
It is not known how many crew are aboard the vessel.

The test to determine specific variant takes very long and there isn't capacity to do a this for every positive covid test. It's random sampling based on predetermined patterns of infection.

at least do some sampling on some of the samples. or they afraid of what story the variants might tell... that people was in and out the country like normal... 1% that is.

While we need to do more vaccination we can only vaccinate when we have the medicine. Throwing up a line chart with other vaccination rates in the Caribbean says very little.

We have not been getting many vaccines as our neighbors. Not nearly, one reason is that we generally had this well-managed and other countries were in crisis. Covax did not see us a priority.

Anyone can remember our first vaccines were a gift from Barbados 2,000

For the whole of 2020 we had covid 127 deaths
By the end of April 2021 we had 169 deaths
We've had 196 deaths in May 2021 alone and there are still 9 days to go in May

May alone so far has had 54% more covid related deaths than the WHOLE of 2020

Covax essentially covers countries such as India, Nigeria etc. Basically over 92 countries. Plus countries such as Canada also pulled from Covax supply and India mandated that the main supplier to Covax which is the Serum Institute keep 50% of their supply for Indian innoculation.

So granted once your country is managing "well" the suppliers would not be in a rush to get vaccines to you when other countries are in crisis with much larger populations.

Easter may not be responsible for the recent spike (it was 7-8 weeks ago) but the spike before, then all who get infected from Easter infected others who went to las lap fast food and spread it.
