I cannot subscribe to the view that the invasion of Ukraine is justifiable based on the utterances of Mr Putin.
Quite frankly his assertions about genocide and neo-nazi government appears dangerously delusional.
This incursion in some ways bring back memories of Hilters expansionist motivation which went well beyond his original stated objectives.
What rulers of Putin's kind always fail to read from history is the fact that the human spirit which drive people to protect their space isn't a journey without serious consequences and many of his kind have perished from their miscalculation.
The occupation of a country such as Ukraine with 40 million souls and large physical area for a lengthy period may well prove to be a fatal error in judgement.
Undoubtedly, the citizens of Ukraine are going to experience pain, suffering and losses at levels we can only imagine but again history teaches that this in many instances triggers extreme levels of resistance and anger.
What is your life worth if you must exist under the boot of a Putin.

Russian Billionaires Lost More Than $126 Billion In Wealth Amid Ukraine Invasion

Russian President Vladimir Putin summoned some of the nation’s business leaders today to a meeting at the Kremlin. At the meeting were at least 13 billionaires: Vagit Alekperov, Pyotr Aven, Andrei Bokarev, Andrei Guriev, Mikhail Gutseriev, Suleiman Kerimov, Andrey Melnichenko, Leonid Mikhelson, Alexey Mordashov, Vadim Moshkovich, Vladimir Potanin, Dmitry Pumpyansky and Vladimir Yevtushenkov, according to state-owned news agency TASS.

“What is happening is a necessary measure,” he reportedly told them. “We were simply left with no chance to do otherwise.”

None of the billionaires have apparently commented, some likely too scared of Putin to speak out against the invasion. But they are not immune.

His attack on Ukraine has not only wreaked havoc on Ukraine, it has destabilized markets around the world and hit the fortunes of even his closest allies. Tens of billions of dollars have been wiped from the fortunes of Russia’s billionaire elite as the country’s stock market and the ruble plunged after President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Russia’s roughly 116 billionaires have lost more than $126 billion since February 16, Forbes calculates. Of that, an estimated $71 billion was wiped out on Thursday, after Russia’s Moex index closed down 33% and the ruble plunged to a record low against the dollar. The threat of sanctions extending beyond the small circle of billionaire oligarchs and businesses already targeted by the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union could bite further into the fortunes of Russia’s richest.

At least five of the billionaires at the Kremlin Thursday - Alekperov, Mikhelson, Mordashov, Potanin and Kerimov - were among the day’s biggest billionaire losers. Altogether at least 11 Russian billionaires lost $1 billion or more each on Thursday.

Russian army deploys its TOS-1 heavy flamethrower, capable of vaporizing human bodies, near Ukrainian border, footage shows

Russian Military Show

CNN footage shows a TOS-1 heavy flamethrower being deployed near the Ukrainian border.

The TOS-1 heavy flamethrower is able to shoot thermobaric rockets.

Thermobaric weapons are capable of vaporizing human bodies and crushing internal organs, say reports.

Footage from inside of Russia appears to show a thermobaric rocket launcher being deployed towards the Ukrainian border, according to The Guardian.

The video, shared on Twitter by CNN correspondent Frederik Pleitgen, displays a TOS-1 heavy flamethrower, which can shoot thermobaric rockets mounted on a T-72 tank chassis.

The footage was captured south of Belgorod, Pleitgen said, which is about 45 miles away from Kharkiv, Ukraine.

The TOS-1 was first used during the Soviet war in Afghanistan, The Guardian said, and was also deployed in Chechnya and the Syrian civil war.

It can launch two types of warheads — incendiary and fuel-air explosives. The latter, also called vacuum or thermobaric rockets, work by using oxygen from the surrounding air to generate a high-temperature explosion.

The weapons system is extremely effective against entrenched personnel. The TOS-1A is used to clear out buildings, field fortifications and bunkers, according to Military-Today.com.

They are considerably more destructive than conventional explosives.

According to i News, thermobaric weapons can vaporize human bodies and crush internal organs.

Western officials first publicly expressed concern that Russian President Vladimir Putin might use thermobaric bombs to seize control of Ukraine on Friday, HuffPost reported.

"My fear would be that if they don't meet the timescales and objectives, they would be indiscriminate in the use of violence," one Western official said, per i News. "They don't adhere to the same principles of necessity and proportionality and the rule of law that Western forces do."

More than 1,700 detained at anti-war protests in Russia

At least 1,728 people were detained Thursday after anti-war protests took place in cities across Russia following the invasion of Ukraine, according to a protest monitoring group.

Protesters took to the streets in 53 cities — including Moscow, St. Petersburg and the far eastern Siberian city of Novosibirsk — to show their discontent with the Kremlin’s war, according to OVD-Info, a civil society group whose website was blocked by Moscow in 2021 amid a wider crackdown on dissenting voices.

On another note, can we just hand Zelenskyy his "straight up G" medals and documentation at this point? Man having his gladiator moment for everyone too see.

Ukrainians and Russians are packing ATM lines, prompting fears of what happened in the US

Long lines outside of banks and ATMs hoping to take out their funds, Reuters reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile in Russia, people are also queuing outside of ATMs trying to get US dollars as its citizens worry their own currency's value will continue to tank, according to the Wall Street Journal. Banks in the capital city of Moscow are running out of money, according to MSNBC.

All of this has led to fears of bank runs, which is when people withdraw money en masse because they worry banks will cease to function.

Anyone who thinks that any Russian of consequence is remotely unprepared for all of these sanctions are underestimating the Russians.

This is a 30+ year old problem the Russians have been working to solve.

They knew what was coming, and think it's worth the blowback

Putin has for some time now executed quite a few bold and provocative moves which is very similar to the North Korean fellow.
Testing the patience of the other global power houses has never worked out well in the long run.
I am quite certain that the present situation has put all an sundry on notice and staging of both offensive and defensive resources by the USA and EU are well underway, actually the lack of media in this regard seems quite instructive.
Silence and stealth should not be taken for weakness.

President Biden has committed an additional $350 million in military assistance to Ukraine, including anti-armor munitions, small arms and other equipment to help the former Soviet republic defend itself against Russia’s onslaught, a Pentagon spokesman said Saturday.
Biden authorized the aid Friday, bringing total assistance approved for Ukraine to $1 billion in the last year, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters. Kirby said said the new package marks the third time the president has expedited emergency security assistance for Ukraine’s defense in recent months using the Presidential Drawdown Authority.

The White House on Friday told Congress that it will need an estimated $6.4 billion in new funding to assist Ukraine as it resists a Russian invasion, to support other eastern European nations dealing with the impact and to bolster the Pentagon.

Of the new money, $2.9 billion would for humanitarian and security needs for Ukraine, the Baltic countries, Poland and other neighbors of Ukraine under the plan. That would be used for humanitarian assistance, food aid, refugee assistance, as well as energy and economic stabilization, according to an administration official.

Zelensky have guts! Says he needs ammunition not a ride. The West, NATO and their allies are cheering Ukraine. However, molotov cocktails are no match for Thermobaric Weapons. The West want to keep Russia bogged down in Ukraine but it's time to sit down and find a solution. It's sad to see so many people fleeing their homes, the human catastrophe and destruction of their country.

No other capable country is crazy enough to give Ukraine the firepower they need…..what can 350m really do? ALL is not only for firepower. Why didn’t the U.S and other supporting countries send over heavy artillery for the Ukrainians.

Remember, Russia has the second most powerful military in the world so again, Ukraine’s “allies” are sending minimum aid just to “show” that they “helped”.

The world is so touched by the patriotism and passion of the Ukrainians but unfortunately, it is not enough to defeat the Russians. This is NOT a movie.

Realistically, it is better for Russia to just take over Ukraine and the rest of the world just block them off without starting a war.

The bigger players are trying their best to stay out.

Germany to send Ukraine weapons in historic shift on military aid
Until Saturday, Germany had a longstanding practice of blocking lethal weapons from being sent to conflict zones.

From its own stockpile, the German government will send 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 Stinger anti-aircraft defense systems to Ukraine. The government has also authorized the Netherlands to send Ukraine 400 rocket-propelled grenade launchers and told Estonia it ship over send nine howitzers.

“The Russian invasion of Ukraine marks a turning point,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in a statement. “It threatens our entire post-war order. In this situation, it is our duty to do our utmost to support Ukraine in defending itself against Vladimir Putin’s invading army. Germany stands closely by Ukraine’s side.”

A government spokesperson said the weapons will be delivered “as soon as possible.”

adnj,

Thanks for the article….but is this the firepower needed to defeat Russia?

Ask yourself, why isn’t Germany setting foot on the battle field to “stand closely by Ukraine’s side” as they brag to be.

Is their duty to do their “utmost support” to just send weapons for the Ukrainian people to die?

If Russia overthrows Ukraine, what is Germany’s next move? If Germany wanted to get involved, they would have by now. But instead, they sent weapons from their “stockpile” which is not enough to defeat one of the greatest military forces in the world.

That 350 Million equals to 1 billion dollars within the last year of support that the US has given to Ukraine , how much more you want lol. Nobody willing to jump out themselves and take the risk of the onslaught of Putin.

Jason,

How much more i want? It’s what the Ukrainians need and what is enough to defeat the Russians.

Giving them less than what they need will just set them up for defeat. Russia has nuclear capability so no nation is going to give Ukraine the FULL support they need to endanger their own country and the rest of the world.

I ask again, what will the these “allies” do if Russia overthrows Ukraine? Invade?

The most they will do is cease to have any dealings with Russia until they have new leadership and still avoid a bloody war.

tons of Ukrane propaganda making it seem like not a one-sided invasion. Talk the the bravery of the Ukranian people. Mythical creatures like the "Ghost of Kiev" making the news.

psst... this is just the US/UK/Europe making it seem "like a fight", instead of those world powers admitting that they are leaving Ukrane out to slaughter
