Read that a couple companies may be closing down ( public sector) East Port-of-Spain Development Company, Palo Seco Agricultural Enterprises Ltd, CISL, Education Facilities Company Ltd.

Any truth to this?

haven't heard anything but that would be a good move, too many special purpose companies in Gov't, it causes duality of roles, unnecessary bureaucracy etc

I hope there are truths to this......There are a number of useless state enterprises whose duties either duplicate one currently being done by another agency or ministry or can be done by another agency.

The State Enterprise Review Committee (SERC) headed by Dr. Farrell has completed their review exercise of state enterprises and the report has been given to Cabinet. If you are hearing rumours it would be based on that report as one of the mandates of the SERC was to rationalize state enterprises. However officially PSs of Ministries with State Enterprises that may be affected have not been officially told of anything as yet.

Not a bad move. . Too much waste in the public sector.

That going to work for 9am and leaving 2pm including 2 hours of lunch has to be abolished.

Those 111 or so State Enterprises consume a significant chunk of the transfers and subsidies from the recurrent budget as well as the PSIP element of funding for dubious returns.

However they provide the opportunity to fill well over 800 board appointments as well as countless Managerial level positions to the "Boys/we people/party hacks".

Soooooo .... The PNM in all its wisdom has shelved the new Motor Vehicle authority.

The $600 million dollar facility will be repurposed for storage and office spaces.
The Canadian company designing the system has given up on the project as Hinds has ignored their last request which was for them to take over the MVA for T&T run it and then hand over to the government after a number of years.

So the corruption and inefficiency in the old licensing authority is to continue as is.
Seems that the PNM and Progress are two mutually exclusive concepts.

It's a shame to pass that facility nearly every day and know it's more than likely never to be used.

Think of all the equipment that will go to waste including the hydraulic lifts for vehicle inspections that were installed.

When your connections strong you could get that kind of position in Government without the requisite qualifications.

Really...like Dooks ?

As a non supporter of Colm--I think he doing an ok job-its a crappy wicket and some one who understands how the rest of Govt works is better suited to what we need now than some economic geek.

CBTT Governer is a more sensitive qualification driven position...Ministers have technocrats and if he needs advice thats where it comes from.

No one could ever say that Dookeran is an arrogant, impudent arsehole. You awarding a passing grade for someone who basically is doing as he is told? :? Impsy don't know fack all about finance so he cannot question anything that is put before him. The most glaring example of this is the manufactured economic crisis by Rowley, Young, Farrell etc. Yes oil/gas are down, but we've seen worse, and survived through worse. There continues to be no mention of revenue generation, only taxation and hardship for people.

Im just pointing out that we had qualified people running MoF and they didnt do much other than react to the price of oil and gas and do their masters bidding.

Imbert became finance minister by default. In all honesty the cabinet that won office has no one else. Given his experience and his professional life he probably is the most suitable, especially when compared to the others in the cabinet.

Yes but reactionary or robotic MoF's with smug arrogant attitudes only piss people off. It was kinda hard to get vex with Dooks.

IMO we can't really be a struggling country if we still give free/subsidized tertiary education.
GATE have to go before they bring more PAYE, VAT. But that's just me.
