Dianne Feinstein, whose three decades in the Senate made her the longest-serving female US senator in history, has died, according to a source familiar. She was 90.
Feinstein’s death will hand California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom the power to appoint a lawmaker to serve out the rest of Feinstein’s term, keeping the Democratic majority in the chamber through early January 2025. In March 2021, Newsom publicly said he had a list of “multiple” replacements and pledged to appoint a Black woman if Feinstein, a Democrat, were to retire.

How would Diane Feinstein be included in a caricature titled "Race for the Office?" I don't believe that Diane Feinstein ever became a Presidential candidate. She certainly never held a Capitol leadership position.

Because she is probably even more an emblem of the gerontocracy that is American Politics than Biden is. Biden may have dementia but it has been a few years DIFI has been physically and possibly mentally unwell to serve.

There isn’t anyone to really challenge him. I’m willing to bet that he sits in the White House once again.

There must be something unconstitutional with stating long before a position is filled that it will be filled by a person of a particular sex and race though. Biden stated what his 1st SCOTUS pick would look like and Newsom always said he was picking a black woman if DIFI died.
There is no such restriction in the US Constitution. Beyond the election, how federal office vacancies are filled is completely under the purview of each state's constitution.

Biden administration waives 26 federal laws to allow border wall construction
“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,” Alejandro Mayorkas, the DHS secretary, stated in the notice.

“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,” Alejandro Mayorkas, the DHS secretary, stated in the notice.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Thursday defended his administration’s decision to waive 26 federal laws in South Texas to allow for construction of roughly 20 miles of additional border wall, saying he had no choice but to use the Trump-era funding for the barrier to stop illegal migration from Mexico.
Asked if he thought such walls work, he said flatly, “No.”
The new construction was announced in June, but the funds were appropriated in 2019 before the Democratic president took office. Biden said he tried to get lawmakers to redirect the money but Congress refused, and the law requires the funding to be used as approved and the construction to be completed in 2023.
“The money was appropriated for the border wall,” Biden said. “I can’t stop that.”
