Even if the pump is NOT working and the receiver and the rest of it is good then grab it asap. You will NEVER get that kind of price these days. Repair (okay) or replace (better) the pump (compressor). You'll never regret it.

BTW shoot for a new, 2-STAGE (eBay/Amazon) 7.5 hp replacement pump (5 hp MINIMUM, with CAST-IRON cylinders.)
Then you can paint, run a sandblast cabinet or almost anything else without having to stop all the time.
Forget the single-stage hype. They are a waste of time! Once again... You'll never regret it.

I always regret not spending more for a bigger used unit.

RPM variable from 500 to 3000rpm and it feels pretty sturdy. Haven't tested it out on steel as yet though

thats a fair price

i bought this same thing from amazon last yr for xmas

my review - d stand part is not d very best built\accurate but it gets d job done for DIY home use - motor\gear does indeed seem solidly made , it runs more quiet than u wud expect

drilling thru steel\metal is 100 times easier & convenient than using a hand drill , once u use a drill press u will say i shud have bought 1 eons ago , its a must have tool

have used it without clamps like if cutting decent size pieces of wood or metal that u can hold on to & it cuts pretty smoothly without it gripping & spinning like a propeller , for smaller pieces i got some irwin vise clamps & C clamps i use too

dont really care to use d laser line up feature

i still using some cheap ass steel bits  on it as all my good bits gone thru\worn out\broke\lost so i waiting on black friday sale to get some cobalt\titanium bit set & some other small tools too ...

What do you guys think about this Craftsman impact wrench? It's selling on ebay for around $100us.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VCQ64C

It's intended for occasional automitive use. Would 200 ft/lbs of torque be sufficient to break lug nuts?

Keep in mind the corded impact wrenches are about 2 times the size and weight of the air types
so while its good for removing wheel nuts, and stuff that is easily reached... its cumbersome to remove other stuff thats tightly spaced

the cordless versions looks nice, never used one though and fairly expensive....

what i do, i just break the wheel nuts or whatever and use the impact driver with a 1/4 hex to 1/2" adapter to use the sockets and that works good enough for now until i can get a decent compressor and air tools

I have access to my uncle's air impact gun and a 5 gal compressor I think but the compressor is too small to make the torque I need for auto diy. I want to break lug, axle nuts, suspension bolts, etc. What size and hp compressor would be necessary for that? The drawbacks for me of a big compressor would be that I have no place to keep it and the price wouldn't be justified, since that's all I'd really be using it for.

I've noted the size and weight issue of the corded electric ones but I've borrowed my friend's own rated at 230 ft/lbs and there was no problem using it. Never tried breaking the axle nut with it though.

The portability of the cordless impact wrench is what appeals to me the most. Don't like having to drag a cord/hose around. Currently have my eyes on a Craftsman model rated at 300 ft/lbs which I think would be ideal torque. Hoping the price drops for the upcoming sales. My uncle is a contractor and telling me that the Craftsman brand is not really top rated. What do you guys think?

We have a 80 gallon quincy in work.

It does everything needed.
Runs air grinders. Impacts and rachets with ease.

Our impacts are rated at 300 and does everything needed. Axle nuts. Wheel nuts ect.

Personally if you're a diy guy. There's no need for a compressor. A electric impact gun should function fine with your needs.

But really air tools are so cheap compared to electronic tools. And last longer. It's a great investment in a compressor

How cheap is cheap? Lol. Never bothered pricing air tools since an 80 gal. compressor would be about 4 to 5 times (around $5000?) the cost of an electric impact.

Have a read of this - listed from (supposedly) best to worse http://www.caranddriver.com/features/im ... ed-gearbox

Although the comparo is 3 years old, there's still some good info and specs that would guide you in your purchase. Obviously the prices may be different now as well.

As someone said earlier, for DIY it's difficult to justify air tools and a large compressor. Even if you have access to it, it's still not portable. For me the cordless seems the best option for a DIYer. But it's your call in the end.

That comparison has some good info but it's definitely not on an even level wrt to specs and prices.

The older model Craftsman which retails around $90usd has 200 ft-lbs torque and comes with the NiCad Diehard Battery. The newer heavy duty model is around $160usd, has 300 ft-lbs and comes with the lithium ion XCP battery(this alone is $90usd).

Got the same views online about the NiCad batteries. Can you use the same charger that comes with the NiCad to charge the lithium battery or do you need the Multi Chemistry charger for it?

What do you use yours for? Can it remove suspension and axle nuts?

Lithium is a must now for cordless tools.Nicad makes no sense because they don't last long.I don't think u should interchange battery chargers even tho they might line up because the charge rate might be different.

Almost any high torque cordless will remove all suspension bolts, 14 to 22 mm.

Axle nuts are in a different league, usually 30-34 mm. If its even slightly rusted, no cordless will remove it willingly.

Have a 20V DeWalt 1/2 inch impact gun, compact, yet very powerful, great for getting to those hard to reach areas. Still going through durability test though!

^^ Thanks a lot for the heads up man. The older C3 bare tool (200 ft-lbs) is around $70usd and the lithium kit with battery and multi chemistry charger is another $70.
On the other other hand the newer model (300 ft-lb) is $160usd and comes with the lithium kit. So I'm thinking it might be better to just put the extra $20 and buy this.

Real failure this rounds. They jack up the list price and put the regular price as sale price.
