Heard it on the news. Saw on a fb video that if he looses, which he did, he would appeal it all the way to the privy council. Can he still stop work? and now we have to wait on the appeal court and then the privy council?

...or will work continue until there is a change of judgement in the appeal court or privy council?

I think he will have to get judicial leave to appeal the judgment, so the work will continue unless the higher courts stop it. Any lawyers here can shed some light?

Right, they might fast track things to the appeal court but i know when it comes to the privy council, it would take a few years until you get a judgement and by that time, whether who in government, highway done. Rest assured the construction going 24hrs fast tracking that portion of the highway. For real, we need some lawyers to shed more light into this.

Expect Kubs and his movement to do something drastic in the coming weeks.

Soooo... hunger strike #2...

Deadline passes: Wayne goes on hunger strike

At noon today, environmental activist Dr Wayne Kublalsingh went on a hunger strike, making good on his promise to begin starving himself if Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar did not personally intervene and meet with him.

In the hours before he began his second hunger strike, environmental activist and leader of the Highway Re-Route Movement Dr Wayne Kublalsingh was visited by three concerned citizens this morning at his camp outside the Office of the Prime Minister in Port of Spain.

The men pleaded with Kublalsingh to reconsider his decision to embark on another hunger strike. "They warned me about the health risks and said I should not be doing this," he said.
But he was not deterred.

Kublalsingh ate his last meal and drank a glass of pineapple juice around 10 a.m.
"I ate roti and ochro this morning and I just ate sada roti and baigan and I drank a glass of pineapple juice. I am filling my stomach for the long haul," he told the Express.

Kublalsingh said there is nothing or no one, except Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar , who can stop the hunger strike at this point.
"The only thing that would change my mind is if the Prime Minister has discussion with me to resolve this problem. I don't think I have a choice at this point," he said.

In 2012 Kublalsingh embarked on a 21-day hunger strike to stop construction of the controversial Debe to Mon Desir segment of the San Fernando to Point Fortin highway.

Wayne eats curry for ‘last lunch’

A hefty meal consisting of rice, dhal, curried chicken, curried mango and salad purchased from the nearby Dopson’s Roti Shop, as well as a bottle of pineapple juice prepared for him by his wife, served as the “last lunch” for environmental activist and head of the Highway Re-Route Movement (HRM) Dr Wayne Kublalsingh.

Kublalsingh began his second hunger strike shortly before noon yesterday, outside the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), St Clair, Port of Spain, despite visits from concerned citizens urging him to reconsider his decision.

“People have come trying to plead with me. They don’t want a hunger strike; nobody here wants it, I don’t want it. But there is so much at risk, it has to go on. We have to look the beast of corruption in the eye. There is no choice in the matter as far as I am concerned,” Kublalsingh said.
“This is a very solemn moment for myself, my family, my supporters, members of the HRM and, indeed, the Government and the Prime Minister,” he added.

Kublalsingh said the lack of response from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to his letter, asking for her to put a hold on the Debe-to-Mon Desir section of the Point Fortin Highway, had led to his decision. Earlier this week, he rejected a response from the office of the Chief State Solicitor, saying he wanted to hear from the PM.

“I will not be relenting until the Prime Minister moves to a position of dialogue,” he said.
The environmentalist said he has not fully recovered from his first hunger strike in 2012, and while he is concerned about his health, he is willing to risk his life for the cause.
“I feel pretty weak, but my spirit is very strong,” he said. “I don’t want to lose my life, nobody wants to lose their lives, but if it comes to that, that is the risk that you have to take.”

Despite this, Kublalsingh said he does not consider himself to be a martyr.

“I am not a martyr, but if it happens, it happens,” Kublalsingh told the Express.
“A hunger strike is more than just a political event, it is a spiritual event. It is someone saying I am prepared to sacrifice myself for a period of time, on behalf of the national interest,” he said.
Kublalsingh said all he wants is to have a meeting with the PM, together with her experts and independent experts, to discuss a review of the controversial highway.
“If at the end of the review, it is determined that the Debe-to-Mon Desir highway is a well-designed, well-constructed, beautiful piece of architecture, fine, we’ll be happy with it,” he said.

Kublalsingh said he would not be consuming anything at all during his hunger strike, including water or vitamins. Earlier in the morning, Fr Clyde Harvey visited and prayed with Kublalsingh and other members of the HRM.

Wayne rejects PM's letter: No backing down

ENVIRONMENTAL activist Dr Wayne Kublalsingh has rejected the letter addressed to him by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Wednesday night hours after he began a hunger strike.

The letter was delivered to Kublalsingh this morning by the Prime Minister's press secretary Francis Joseph.

He asked Joseph to relay to Persad-Bissessar his wish that she have the best of health and that she always keeps God in her decisions.

In a telephone interview with the Express, Kublalsingh, who is camped outside the office of the Prime Minister in St Clair, Port of Spain, disagreed that he was holding the country to ransom by his decision to starve himself to stop construction on the Debe to Mon Desir segment of the Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Point Fortin.

Kublalsingh said it was Persad-Bissesar who was being held ransom by the political and financial elites of the country.
"We are trying to save her, to free her from the grips of what they are doing. We want to sit with her, discuss the Armstrong report, negotiate and find out the best system of connectivity (for the area)

He said that the hunger strike would continue "for however long it takes" and would continue "until the Prime Minister agrees to meet (and) to agree to abide to her promise put the highway on hold. It is not an unreasonable request".

Kublalsingh was visited today by Pastor Henry Balfour and Jennifer Jackson, both from the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star based at Prizgar Lands, Laventille.

Looks like the gov't is prepared to help him do just that.... permanently.

Points for persistence/conviction, but he's being ridiculous.

For people to take the hunger strike seriously, Kubz suppose to be in front the prime minister's office the full 24HRS per day. Not coming out for certain hours and then going back home :|
