Dad: Bully slash my twin sons

A Siparia father is calling for an investigation into how his five-year-old twin sons suffered injuries at school on Monday which required them to have a total of 12 stitches to their heads.

Kelvin George, 32, believes his sons Ishmael and Ishmaaeel, First Year students of Siparia Boys RC School, were victims of bullying. The bully, he believes, is a Standard Two student who allegedly broke a glass bottle and slashed the heads of the twins. George yesterday claimed the school staff told him the children were playing and they hit their heads on a railing and sustained the injuries.

However, two days later, the children revealed what happened to their father when they saw a Vitamalt glass bottle and told him it said resembled the one they were struck with. George also said a doctor believed the boys were cut by a sharp object. “The staff members are claiming the children were playing and hit their heads together. But, based on what the doctor said the injuries were as a result of a sharp object. While walking on a street Ishmael said, ‘Daddy look at the bottle the boy break and slice meh head with. He run down Ishmaaeel too and sliced him with it’ (sic).”

George said he only became aware of the bullying, after his sons confided in him.

“The children said that same boy does be slapping them up in their faces. So, this child is accustomed hitting them and threatening that if they tell the teacher or anybody, he will buss up their faces. This child injected fear into Ishmael and Ishmaaeel so much that they even afraid to tell me what going on.”

George, a former boxer, recalled that shortly before 3 pm on Monday he went to the school to pick up his sons. To his horror, he saw a female teacher holding Ishmael whose uniform was covered in blood and blood was spurting from his head.

George said he began a frantic search for his other son and moments later saw students accompanying Ishmaaeel. He also had injuries to his head.

They injured boys were taken to the Siparia District Health Facility.

“I asked what happened to them and the first thing she (teacher) said was she did not know. Blood was all over their faces and uniforms and the teacher was panicking. At the health centre, the boys were rushed to emergency department one time to see a doctor. Ishmael got eight stitches and Ishmaaeel about four.” Initially believing the injuries resulted from an accident, the father said his suspicions arose when the doctor said a sharp object was used. He returned to the school to inform the principal. George said she is maintaining that what happened was an accident and the slashing incident never occurred.

“Obviously, they are covering up something or protecting somebody’s interest. Either Wednesday or Thursday we went to school to identify the student, but he was not there. Two men claiming to be police in plainclothes began painting my children as liars. One was telling me my child could be lying that they were slashed with a bottle.” Such a violent act could have ended in their deaths, George said.

He wants an investigation into what happened to his sons, and also one into why the alleged bully is so violent. He said his sons and the boy who he believes harmed them need counselling.

“At the end of the day, I don’t want the boy face any criminal actions because he too is a child. He was very violent and if he had missed the children’s heads, I would have been at the school to identify the bodies. That child really needs some deep counselling. I never met him or the parents,”.

Since the incident, the children have not returned to classes.

A source at the Ministry of Education yesterday said the ministry is aware of the incident and is investigating a report from the school. Sunday Newsday learnt school officials interviewed George and his sons at the compound and there was no mention about bullying or sharp objects. An initial report stated the boys bumped into each other and injured themselves. As far as the ministry is aware “at this time”, their injuries were accidental.

This incident is so serious, this isn't like other "regular" school bullies.
The standard 2 child bully is already a psychopath. What going on in his home too? And the school principal covering up what happened.

The parent needs to get the police heavily involved in an official investigation. Get the doctor's report too. Needs Child Welfare involved officially. Just imagine, a couple inches down or to the left and these boys either blind or dead from cutting a major blood vessel! And that's the principal's reaction to something like that?!

A Penal woman is pleading for Education Minister Anthony Garcia to help her daughter Khaleesi Webb get an education.

Khaleesi, five, was born with Spina Bifida, a disability which forces her to use a walker to move around. On Garcia’s intervention earlier this year, she was placed in the Penal Quinam Government primary school, after three other schools had rejected her.

However, Khaleesi’s latest hurdle which has prevented her from attending school for the past three weeks, is a lack of transportation. Parents Kerisha and Rafael Webb of Charlo Village said that with Khaleesi’s medical expenses, they cannot afford to hire transportation and were depending on the good graces of a taxi driver.

However, the driver had an argument with a teacher at the school and told Khaleesi’s parents he will no longer drop her and pick her up. Webb said when her child was granted a school space, the ministry promised her a place on the special-needs school bus.

Arrangements were also made for an aide to be provided through the Student Support Services (SSS) to assist the child in going to the bathroom among other tasks.

Neither of these promises were fulfilled. She brought home test papers showing she made 40 out of 40 in one subject and 100 out of 100 in another. She loves her school, she loves her friends, I am begging the Ministry to help my child fulfil her potential,” the weeping woman said. Webb said if she is unable to get transportation, she is requesting a transfer to the Penal Rock Road primary school which has facilities for persons with disabilities.

“There is a child at Penal Rock Road who also uses a walker. This child also has an aide and I can get transportation to that school. The problem is, the principal said she has no space,” Webb said.

Calls to Minister Garcia went unanswered.

The horrors these little kids are exposed too are horrendous...!!!

Unfortunately for the kid/s involved, it's always the instance of what they see or exposed to at home...

My daughter is a 2nd year student in a pre-school and there's a boy in her class always talking bout beating up police & he eh fraid no police, thus uses that to inflict fear in the other children. Aunty's at the school speak to the boy's mother daily, but no change...

Eviction would be just shifting a problem, but if the parents can't fix what they've created or encourage...kick he damn rass out the skool wee...!!!

That's just one...so many I hear about from Co workers and even from my own experience. Parents are to be held responsible.

Rats have been seen scurrying about the Valencia Secondary School and concerned parents are calling for the intervention of the Ministry of Education.

The fear is heightened as a result of the recent cases of the potentially fatal disease Leptospirosis

When you're young you generally don't care about health. But guess whose tax money paying for it in the hospitals?

PSA: Did you know that cigarette smoke is radioactive?
It's more radioactive for a smoker in 1 year than an astronaut is exposed to in 6 months in space. What you think about 2nd hand smoke now?

Police investigating "Caged child" video (above post)

Officers of the Child Protection Unit are currently examining video footage of a nude child trapped inside a small cage and being video taped by a male relative.

The 28-second long video which surfaced on social media yesterday afternoon showed the child cursing the relatives as he recorded him.

Officers are currently seeking to verify the video's authenticity.
