fully agree with carnival ting...

Chutney/soca is a big enough industry to be self-sustaining. And not beg Aunty Kams and now Dr. R for 2 million. or ball who get more or less, or who only get more cos promoters iz UNC or PNM... if Nisha/Ravi, Destra and co. earn big bucks, the industry can arrange its own 2 million prizes.

Govt slashes $$ for Soca Monarch

Published on Dec 17, 2015, 8:28 pm AST
By Anna Ramdass

Government contributions for the International Soca Monarch and the Chutney Soca Monarch have been drastically cut.

Communications Minister Maxie Cuffie said the allocation for the International Soca Monarch has been reduced from $8.09 million (2015) to $3.5 million for Carnival 2016.

He said the allocation for the Chutney Soca Monarch was reduced to $2.9 million from $4.8 million.

“Those reductions are in keeping with the state of the economy, the fact that we were eliminating waste, corruption, mismanagement anywhere we can find it; it’s really in keeping with what we can afford although recognising the importance of those competitions to the festival,” said Cuffie.

He was speaking at the post-Cabinet news conference yesterday, at the Office of the Prime Minister, St Clair.

Noting the competitions for these two major Carnival events were hosted by private entities, Cuffie said he was sure both organisations were quite “adept at finding the necessary funds to run the competitions”.

Cuffie said these cuts were necessary, given the financial situation of the country and based on what the Government can afford at this time.

He noted Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly had announced the budgetary allocation for Carnival 2016 would be cut by some $44 million, from $314 million in 2015 to $270 million for 2016.

Cuffie said all State enterprises and ministries are now operating under a different “economic paradigm” and are responding to the economic realities that exist.

2.5B debt racked up in 5 years? How is that corruption? Mismanagement maybe but this corruption brush that you are so quick to paint everything with is short-sighted at best. The funny thing is you would be surprised to see who the ones owing TTEC are.........

I want to find out how much money did the PPG borrow from 2010 to 2015 and how much of that do we still have to repay in order to clear it off? and how much was owed prior to 2010 under manning administration and how much did the PPG pay off?

No boy we in kindergarten where the UNC is always right and the PNM always wrong.

You right. its not corruption. Its theft. Spend money. Dont pay bills. Then leave so someone else will have to pay the bill. What you call that ?

http://www.central-bank.org.tt/content/debt-annual

Note figures are in millions. So you adding 6 zeroes after the decimal point.

basically Foreign debt was 9.2 billion TTD in 2001. 8.9 billion in 2009. and 13.9 billion in 2014.

Domestic Debt was 12.4 billion in 2001, 34.6 billion in 2009 and 65.2 billion in 2014.

They dont have any figures before 2000.

When he said that?

Rambarran last month announced to the public that T&T was in a recession. It caused barely concealed anger in the Government which said he had bypassed the proper line of communication to the Minister of Finance.

He is also facing a possible legal challenge from the Massy conglomerate for revealing that company to be among the country’s biggest consumers of foreign exchange.

Rowley and his Government had since been hesitant to accept Rambarran’s claim that the country was in fact in a recession.

“We haven’t seen the numbers,” the Prime Minister said.

Rowley said he would not be surprised if the country was indeed in a recession but there could be no certainty without the figures.

“It is unacceptable that we do not have those numbers. The CSO (Central Statistical Office) has not functioned for years,” Rowley said.

I saw it on TV news bro, where the PNM Prime Minister said their are no figures to show that Trin is in a recession.

Spin all you like, it was what he said.
Some of the media did not cover it as they have been down playing negative PNM news.

Two days ago on TV news.

Certain media stations did not air it as they have been sheltering this government.
