^their prices to Guyana are ridiculous to be fair, however i do believe that runway is too short and it should be lengthened to 9000 feet (which they can very well do, since there is a lot of space both before and after the runway, save for a large drop after the runway which can be built up to height if need be), however, i have no idea why everytime i fly there on CAL they always land halfway down the runway, the circa 8000ft length of the runway is more than enough to handle the 737's

well i think what happen was either two things
1- pilot forgot to extend flaps to proper angle
or 2- when pilot realised "AYYY this plan cyah stop... "he retract the flaps to try to take back off and to try to try to land again later

1- from what we see the flaps wasn't extended at all, however the GPWS would be screaming "FLAPS"
2-In at attempt to retract the flaps from 40 to 5 in a rejected take off, he could have reduce it to 0, oops

ummm maybe the gpws was yelling "what the hell... he mustb know what he doing".
and i meant proper angle as in extending it. not any specific degree. and mayb it was reduced to zero... the pilot could have been in two minds

So far everything seems to be pointing to these possibilities + Wx conditions at the airfield.

Yes CA is ours, but what exactly SHE went to do?....she certainly can't fix the plane or tell us why it happened...did she pay for the flight out of her own pocket?

Exactly how this benefits the people of T&T?

quite a few of the passengers were trini

pioneer wrote:And why exactly each passenger getting $500USD?

All aircraft accident sites are treated as a crime scene until the investigators determine otherwise. Just like the aircraft itself, all cargo and luggage are also suspect.

That said, passengers won't get their luggage back immediately, until screened and re-screened. So without any personal effects......................

ROFL @ ''AYYY this plan cyah stop...''

However, does anyone know how long it takes to retract from 40 to 0 (or 5) It takes about 2 minutes to EXTEND from 0 to 15...Looking at the flap lever it looks like it'd be easy to go from 40 to 0 in a hurry (or by mistake), you'd have to shift the lever to the right, get the pin out of the notch, shift the lever forward to the desired setting and then shift to the left to engage the pin back into the groove...

Image

I can't really imagine an experienced flight crew making this mistake but I guess on a wet runway at night and you're running out of runway it would be possible.

That being said, if they did reject the landing and tried to go around, why do the pics show both engines still in reverse thrust positions?

Thank God no lives were lost and strangely enough, Capt Dean flew me to JFK just a couple days before...

i agree with Jack the Ripper. but careful examination of the picture also reveals that the left spoilers and right spoilers on the wing were activated. so it looks more strange to me. to slow down the plane, we see the reverse thrusters activated and the spoilers, yet... the major mechanism to slow down and control the plane; the flaps, are not extended... :O

CAL most dangerous destinations are SYCJ, MKJP and TNCM

Like most airports in the region the US Army built SYCJ, however they built it on a hill with a drop after both thresholds. You would think they would have built something in a better location given Guyana's size. In GT they are refurbishing an airport that would be able to handle props like the ATR's.
