Usually I would side with Anonymous because their cause is just. However this time its wtf.
Anonymous is successfully denying a service that some customers pay for (playstation+, Store etc.), the same customers that Anonymous says that they are standing up to protect from the "tyranny" that is Sony.
They are a little borked this time.
It is because of this logic that I would believe that Anonymous is not truly responsible.![]()

On a serious note, I must say that anonymous is fighting a losing battle.

With the recent PSN security breach, Rothken Law Firm of California has filed a lawsuit against Sony. The firm stated that, “[Sony] failed to take reasonable care to protect, encrypt, and secure the private and sensitive data.”
An overview of the lawsuit says that Sony failed to inform consumers in a timely manner about the security breach, “[Sony's] failure to protect those rights, and failure and on-going refusal to timely inform consumers of unauthorized third party access to their credit card account [...]“.
The plaintiff in the case wants to understand why Sony, “[failed] to maintain adequate computer data security of consumer personal data and financial data [...]“–considering there are over 77 million credit card account holders.
“Plaintiff is informed and believes that this breach of security was caused by SONY’s negligence in data security, including its failure to maintain a proper firewall and computer security system, failure to properly encrypt data, its unauthorized storage and retention of data, its violation of Payment Card Industry Data Standard(s) and rules and regulations it was bound to obey for the benefit of consumers concerning the storage of consumers’ private identifying transaction and credit card information, and its violation of California laws requiring the implementation and maintenance of security for customer information”.

Update: The recent class-action lawsuit brought against Sony for security breach may hit a dead-end. According to the LA Times, the Supreme Court of the United States has recently ruled, on a 5-4 decision, that companies can block a gang of angry consumers from engaging in a class-action lawsuit.
“[...] in Wednesday’s decision, the high court said that under the Federal Arbitration Act companies can force these disgruntled customers to arbitrate their complaints individually, not as part of a group.”
Of course, this doesn’t sit easy with consumer-rights advocates, “[...] a practical ban on class action would be unfair to cheated consumers”.
