A debate is brewing on Facebook over the drunken skits played out at the People's National Movement (PNM) family and sport day on Sunday.
During the march past involving some of the PNM constituency teams, women dressed in yellow dresses acted drunk and uncontrollable while holding what appeared to be bottles of alcohol.
A photograph of one of the women went viral on social media yesterday, sparking mostly criticisms as people pointed out it was a family event with children present.
Former Arima mayor Ghassan Youseph posted an open message to Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley, writing: "Good day to my representative in Parliament for the past 24 years. This is an open letter to you, sir. As a constituent of Diego Martin West since the seventies, I have a simple question for our Member of Parliament for the past 24 years.
"Could you, Dr Keith Rowley, name 18 things of note you have accomplished in the past 24 years as our Member of Parliament to uplift the standard of living for your constituents? Over to you, sir!"
Former justice minister Herbert Volney posted: "This approved conduct, like the Calcutta ship comment, are what makes me inspired to go out and vote to ensure the sure defeat of the PNM."
Some posts were emotional and critical, with one female Facebook user posting: "Why do we need to keep doing this? It is tasteless, crass and classless and shows the level people will sink to for political points. Whether it is a suggestive meme of Rowley wining on a child or someone making fun of a drunken PM, this is not the behaviour of an adult or evolved society.
"If the PM does indeed suffer from the disease of alcoholism, as do many many thousands in this truth-forsaken society, should someone not help get her treatment? Should we not have some element of concern for someone who has a disease, rather than make fun of them?
"If Rowley has a 'ting' for Indian women/young girls, as some put out there, should he not get some couples counselling rather than be snickered at? Lest we forget, Panday also reportedly ran his govt well imbibed on a few cocktails and Manning ran his well imbibed on narcissism and small-church megalomania."
This was followed by a string of comments in support, with one person posting: "Our society is still in the dark ages where some illnesses are a shame or laughed at. Alcoholism and mental illness of any kind, and need of counselling. They are seen as moral flaws. Sad but true."
"I wonder what is going through the impressionable minds of the children present. Shame on them!" was another response.
PNM candidate for La Horquetta/Talparo Maxie Cuffie defended Rowley in the chat.
He wrote: "...I beg to disagree. It is up to the her family, friends and colleagues to take the kind of action you are suggesting for someone who is alcoholic. If they don't then public ridicule, as was demonstrated yesterday, is a legitimate next step as an intervention.
"This is not peculiar to TT or the PNM. Let me remind you that PNM supporters are enduring an unrelenting personal attack on their leader who has been called the worst things, including a rapist and the son of a rapist. Even worse, neither her PM nor anyone in the PP has condemned it. The MP for Tobago East has not apologised to Dr Rowley nor his family and neither has her leader who has kept her in her job.
"Their chief spokespersons, the leader of Government business, said he was proud of her. My constituency had a similar skit on the PM's alleged problem. And I was proud of them," he stated.
He wrote: "No one seems to be noticing the rapid decline of the PP. They couldn't chance the embarrassment of a flop in Mid Centre Mall, Chaguanas, Aranjuez Savannah or even Eddy Hart Grounds. They chose the smaller Constantine Park and still not fill it.
"Even with the UNC offering persons $200 to attend the meeting and reggae concert, the PNM attracted a larger crowd to hear Dr Keith Rowley with local artistes some of whom were pleading to be allowed to perform for free. The entertainment alone for the PP event cost $1.2 million.
"Nigel Henry's SBS is projecting a possible 23-18 in favour of the PNM. After yesterday I am wondering whether that could be conservative. If I were KPB, I too would be afraid to call an election date."http://www.trinidadexpress.com/20150526/news/debate-over-pnms-drunken-skits

Apparently the Calcutta Ship did not land cause they forgot to celebrate INDIAN Arrival Day again.![]()
I am sure they will say it was a typographical error

Kamla fired JW after evidence of wrong doing was uncovered in detailed report. Rowley et al described him as friend after report. Whose judgement should be questioned?
Bezman wrote:KPB didnt fire jack, she asked him to resign, after tremendous pressure from public and business sectors for everything from the firing squad, firetruck, and fifa investigations.. left up to her, she would have kept her buddy close.
