That is only if the government is doing their vaccinations at their snail's pace which is constrained by the world's low supply and high demand.
If we were to get more allocations/donations coming in the next few weeks, then it would surely step up.
Also in the future the private sector would be able to eventually source vaccines and thus help spread the workload.
If we could have 100k vaccinated within 3 months, that would make a decent step forward with respect to reopening.

We are behind the rest of the world with respect to vaccinations thus the need for private sector to assist is not there yet.

Key Points From the Ministry of Health’s Virtual Media Conference – Wednesday 31st March 2021
- Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram announced that the 33,000 vaccine doses from the COVAX Facility made it safely into cold storage without any issues. He went on to state that these vaccines have 2 months to be used before they expire.
- Dr. Parasram also announced that based on the latest findings on the efficacy of the Astra Zeneca Vaccine, all 33,000 doses received may be used as a first dose which would amount to roughly 33,000 persons being vaccinated in this first tranche.
- The CMO explained that the reason for this was research suggesting that the vaccine’s efficacy increased when the 2nd dose was administered between 8-12 weeks as opposed to 4-6 weeks. Dr. Parasram elaborated that due to the 2 month expiration date on the doses, government wouldn’t be able to maximize the vaccine’s efficacy if they delivered both doses to approximately 16,000 people instead.
- However, Dr. Parasram indicated that this plan to use all 33,000 vaccines for the first dose was dependent on T&T receiving the 2nd tranche of vaccines as planned so that the 2nd dose could be administered from it. He concluded by saying that the Government will evaluate the situation and make a decision when the first 16,000 people were vaccinated.
- WHO/PAHO Representative to T&T and the Dutch Kingdom Islands, Dr. Erica Wheeler stated that the 2nd tranche of Covid-19 vaccines from the COVAX Facility is expected to arrive in T&T in approximately a month’s time. Dr. Wheeler also indicated that the Johnson & Johnson Vaccine should be made available to the COVAX Facility by June.
- Dr. Wheeler, while answering a question regarding Germany’s decision to limit use of the Astra Zeneca vaccine to those under 45 years of age, stated that according to the WHO there is no clinical evidence to support news that deaths are linked to the Astra Zeneca Vaccine. She indicated that there is no scientific basis for the halting of WHO approved vaccines in any country
- Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh announced that in the coming days, the Ministry of Health will disseminate the necessary information for persons over 60 with Noncommunicable Diseases, to schedule appointments to receive their vaccine. Minister Deyalsingh indicated that these appointments can be made in person at one of the 21 sites, online or via phone call.
- The Health Minister stated that all 16,000 persons are expected to receive their first dose in 2 ½ weeks with approximately 1000 people being vaccinated per day from Tuesday April 6th. Minister Deyalsingh went on to say, that at this time persons that wish to receive their vaccine will have to come in to the designated centres as the health officials need to monitor them for allergic reactions for 30-50 minutes post vaccination.
- Minister Deyalsingh added that both he and the Prime Minister will receive their vaccinations next week while other Parliamentarians, Opposition included, will have to wait for the 2nd phase.

Shouldn't they automatically have people appointed based on whether they fall within the 60 years and older with non-communicable diseases? Or are people who feels strongly about not taking vaccines can get away not taking the vaccine by not making an appointment?

ppl who are an NCD clinic patient will get the vaccine on clinic days- ppl who are not (they may have their own private doctors) but are >60 with NCDs have to make an appointment.
