"This morning (Mon 3 Dec 2012 I have decided to continue with the hunger strike and discontinue all medical treatment. I will no longer take saline drips or blood tests. There will be no medical team and ambulance on stand-by. My family has expressed serious concerns with regard to my decision. I take sole responsibility for this decision. I continue to support the Highway Re-Route Movement requesting an independent review of the Mon Desir to Debe sectio fo the Highway. I await the outcome of the discussions of the Minister of Works and the JCC. I will be outside the PMs office today and everyday. signed. Dr Wayne Kublalsing. The positions being adopted by Mr Kublalsingh and as reported by the media are so 'fluid' that it has become difficult to offer sympathy since I really don't know what is his real request.
The many folks who have turned up at his camp to perform have added no small measure of confusion.
Assuming that the previous reported position -
He was wlling to end his demo. if the state accepted a request by the JCC and was willing to engage in an exercise for constructive resolution.
I am now at a loss about what he really wants, if his position is now I going and starve 'miself' unless I get my way.
I would hate to have a Prime Minister whose positions keep shifting as sand in the wind.
The fella seems to be pre-judging what going an happen between the State and the JCC.

Kubs claim to be for the Highway but he has continuously caused disruptions during consultations and making claims for additional information after what was requested was provided. the highway has been adjusted for his satisfaction and he still makes requests.

more importantly if he claims to want the highway he would ensure that infrastructure would be put in place to minimize the effect on the wetland rather than outright want it stopped.

Samples of flora and fauna could be taken to ensure that there is continuity.

I also see ppl trying to compare the smelter protest with the Highway one, the difference is that the smelter was going to affect the health and safety of the citizenry. It was going to pollute the air we breath, the water we drink and use and the food we eat. Simple.

Human rights activist Ishmael Samad was detained by police earlier today for attempting to make a citizen's arrest of environmentalist Dr Wayne Kublalsingh at his hunger strike camp on Gray Street in St Clair.
The reports are that Samad approached Kublalsingh who was lying on his gurney and made an attempt to pull him off. However, Kublalsingh supporters intervened sparking a confrontation with Samad.
Police quickly stepped in and detained Samad to appease the situation. He has since been taken to the Port of Spain Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further questioning.

Update on meeting between the JCC and Works Minister, re: Highway: The parties have signed a draft agreement. They have agreed that NIDCO will make available all documents relating to the Debe to Mon Desir section of the Highway to the JCC. The JCC will then undertake to review these documents and has 60 days to produce a report on its findings.

Work will continue on the highway in the meantime.


I think this should be enough for Dr. Kublalsingh to end his strike.
