what is your recommendation for entry level speakers (inclusive of sub)?
can you also give a lil rundown on why?

That system is really good for the $$ but i already have a receiver. Was using the Z5500 till I can upgrade. Looking to get an idea on what to save for and a general idea on how would be the best way to change speakers in phases.
Example (hypothetical).
1./Save $1000 > buy Klipsch sub and use Z5500 center & satellites.
2./Save $500 > buy Polk center and use Z5500 satellites.
3./Save $1000 > buy Bose ;) satellites.

Any advice?

budget is flexible as long as i stretch out the purchases and fudge the domestic accounting figures.
As I said before I would try to live with the satellites for a while. I don't really want to spend more than $5000 over the course of 2011.

Pioneer's setup is admirable (performance wise) but his satellites look rather BIG. The sub is cool though.

^^My 'satellites' are actually 4 floorstanding 3 way speakers so his own pretty darn small in comparison.

$5K is a good budget for speakers, guys on here could advise u good.

All i need to complete my setup is a good powered sub, using a Logitech Z2300 sub ftw.

^not bad,a quick fact, klipsch owns mirage audio and energy as well. The sub in that set is the identical one mirage calls the omni s8,dunno how it sounds though as the box design is different.

^ yup - I was interested in the Energy Take FPS but couldnt afford it so I ended up getting the Klipsch Quintet SL instead as the price was better.

no doubt the Energy FPS is a great performer as a flat panel LCR

I currently have the Logitech Z-5300e THX-Certified 280-Watt 5.1 Surround Sound PC and Gaming Speaker System
Image

Would this be a good upgrade for me or overkill considering room size is 10x10
mostly movie watching and some gaming

What about the HT-S5300? what the price to bring that in raptor? visions of 7.1 dance in my head... heck i was thinking of getting the Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 2.1 and mating it with my current system to get 7.2 surround... the z-2300 would power the front speakers and the z-5300 would do center and rear/surronds...

Life is funny, isn't it? Within 24hrs, went from the above statement to wanting a pair of these for the front L&R speakers:

These are Polk Audio Monitor 50 Series II.
Looking @ Pioneer's sub for future. Seems Polk have some decent stuff and prices not too bad either.

in simple words: if you are interested in sound quality do not buy the logitech, you can get much better for the money.

IMO the Onkyo receiver is very good - I would get the receiver alone and opt for different speakers.

^ I was posting for readers in general -
I suggested if he is buying the Onkyo that he could look at buying the receiver alone and getting some other speakers like the Polk that you suggested

Indeed. You guys always rough up Logitech, but I guess its a case of not missing what you never had. I just want more... room filling sound, not quite so directional.

the z5500 is ok for movies, not great, it was marketed as a gaming speakers, music cannot be enjoyed on it without some heavy eq, The onkyo on the other hand can do music, movies and gaming and is easily upgraded.

Add room-filling sound to your TV viewing experience. This 3D sound bar delivers immersive audio without running wires across the room or setting up extra speakers, so you can complete your 3D home entertainment experience with simple, yet powerful surround sound.

The HT-CT150 32" 3D sound bar home theater system features 3D compatibility and can also be turned into your entertainment hub by connecting multiple HD or 3D devices using a single HDMI cable per device (sold separately). In addition to the latest audio decoding technology, this beautifully sleek sound bar can be easily mounted directly to select BRAVIA® TVs, hung on your wall, or placed separately on a shelf.

S-Force Surround for Immersive Audio

By using a powerful 100% digital Sony S-Master amplifier and DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology, realistic surround sound can be generated from just two front speakers. Unlike other "virtual surround" technologies, rear sound is generated from the front two speakers using sophisticated digital sound processing and does not need to be bounced off of side walls. No matter what the size or shape of the room or what's on the wall, it's possible to hear sounds from behind you without needing to place speakers behind you.
HDMI Repeater with Pass-Through and Audio Return Channel

Connect multiple devices via HDMI to your surround sound system, easily switch between them, and then connect everything to your HDTV with just one HDMI cable. Standby pass-through of audio and video conveniently access all your HDMI connected devices without having to power on the receiver.

Audio Return Channel eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your TV. This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV.
LPCM Playback

LPCM is a method of encoding audio information digitally which can have up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. This wider bandwidth allows for high resolution audio which is closer to the original.
DIGITAL MEDIA PORT

The demand for digital audio and video content continues to be strong. Sony's DIGITAL MEDIA PORT (DMP) interface is a proprietary interface that adds networking and connectivity options to your home theater system. Just connect optional accessories (sold separately) which provide the ability to control and power devices while making set up easy and operation simple to use. The DMP will be compatible with various accessories which will include a PC Client ready device, Bluetooth adapter and Audio Docking stations compatible with select Network Walkman and iPod products. Regardless of where you store your music.
BRAVIA Sync Compatible

Conveniently operate and control other BRAVIA Sync compatible devices--including BRAVIA HDTVs, Blu-ray Disc Players, surround sound systems, Handycam camcorders and Cyber-shot digital still cameras, all with one remote control.

Need advice making a 150 inch Projector Screen

Postby EFFECTIC DESIGNS » January 13th, 2011, 1:03 am

Tuners what would you say is the best type of material for Projector Screens?
I noticed it looks very good on my ceiling because apparently the ceiling is WHITE.

And my walls are Apple White so I guess this is why it looks much better on my Ceiling. I am looking at making a 150 Inch Screen it will be 16:9 Ratio Wide Screen as the projector displays in Wide Screen.

Question is would a reflective white be better or a plain white?

And where would I get this material?

At 150 inch the Projector will not be as bright as it is at 32 inch etc. So thats why I need a proper screen.

This is important because I will be playing Left 4 Dead and Bad Company 2 aswell as watching movies. And well there are lots of dark scenes that may cause a problem if the screen isn't as best as it can be.
