The local industry rep made a valid point about thawing out a case of chicken
It's not an easy task to safely thaw a solid block of chicken parts.

Why people making such "kick up" about chicken ?

KFC owners are millionaires if not billionaires because of chicken .

Do you really care if KFC is Tyson or common fowl ?

Average people eat so much "tin food" and " salmonella gyro " and greasy doubles "bara"

So in Trinidad , chicken is chicken :D

Chicken good.

PNM bad :D

This is basically the same tune that Robin Phillips and Desmond Ali have been singing for years (without providing any empirical evidence to support the claim).

Both represent two large domestic and regional lobbying groups (the PATT and the CPA).

The US Embassy in Port of Spain is assuring the public that local consumers "can eat US poultry with full confidence," after Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat reportedly called "inferior" American chicken a threat to farmers' viability.

Avocado local pollock is now $60 for one large one.

Not sure why the prices have gone up so much but we do know Avocado only grows in select few places in Trinidad with sandy soil. Also theft has caused a lot of people to abandon growing avocado, no point in spending all that time if people just gonna steal it.

Don't buy nasty old frozen chicken

Postby stikid09 » February 12th, 2019, 9:55 am

AGRICULTURE Minister Clarence Rambharat lashed out at imported chicken on Sunday evening in San Fernando.

He was delivering the feature address at the inaugural National Cocoa Awards at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA) on Todd Street.

Rambharat had first criticised imported chicken, specifically from the United States of America on June 1, last year, while speaking at a University of the West Indies (UWI) conference on buffalypso.

Since then, the US government ran an extensive campaign asserting the safety of its poultry exports to T&T. This time, on Sunday, Rambharat did not specify the origin of the ‘cheap, nasty, imported chicken’.

However, he posed a series of questions: “Our ministry has not been a voice on food safety, but what is the sense of producing food if you’re not producing safe food? What is the sense of selling food when it’s not sold under safe conditions? And what is the sense of talking about food when you’re not talking about safe food?”

He continued: “And on the initiative of Shiraz Khan, the farmer, I took to the Parliament and took to the Finance and Legal Committee of the Parliament, where I am the vice-chairman, this topic of food fraud, and I started to talk about this imported chicken. Why should we be eating, consuming three-year-old chicken? I mean, most people who have interacted in some way with the chicken know that the chicken is not fit for human consumption. Why should we, if the Americans, if the United States, is not allowing chicken to be sold beyond 180 days of slaughter, why should we be accepting cheap, nasty, imported chicken when we have a strong and vibrant poultry sector in this country?”

‘Food fraud is real’

The minister also waded into seafood. He said, at a food fraud conference that the Agriculture Ministry partnered with the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) to host, the University of Guelph, Canada, found that “95 per cent of the fish sold in restaurants is not what they say on the menu it is. The most pervasive fish is white fish. Tilapia is second, and there’s a good chance that your expensive snapper, for example, is either white fish or tilapia.”

He said: “If you as local consumers are not interested in safe, local fish, not interested in knowing where your food comes from, not interested in supporting your local fisherfolk, and your local communities, then I can’t force you to eat what is local. I can only provide you with the information, and tell you that food fraud is real. Fake food is real, and if you’re seriously concerned about your life, then you should focus on this issue of food safety.”

Rambharat also had some words for local fishermen and people posing as local fishermen. With regard to the allegedly kidnapped fishermen, making headlines recently, he asked: “How, as an island dealing with water safety, dealing with crime and criminals using our fish landing sites to land people, drugs, guns, everything, how can we manage vessels in T&T when there is no law that requires a vessel to carry a tracking device.”
