Ah yes another hater thread on what IS or IS NOT art/music.
Good thing you detractors define the entire sub-set of life
Art is Art...there is no good or bad Art, good or bad music. It just....

IS :|

You cannot compare one genre to another in qualitative terms. It's impossible.

Every time a new age artist appears on the stage in T&T there is a wave of "experts" on TriniTuner saying "xyz" is NOT real music etc etc

It's so familiar to when Elvis came on the scene, or the Beatles or even Michael Jackson...the older generation used to say the SAMMMMMEEEE THIIINNNGGG

You guys don't realize how out of touch, or for a lack of a better word, antiquated your thought processes are. You sound so foolish and myopic in your views. Smug in your pseudo analytical world, as if you're a Musicologist.

Give it a rest. Learn to appreciate Art for Art, not in a comparative battle with your own personal preference. Especially when it comes attached with judgment directed towards the listening audience/fans.

Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait WAIT

you did not put Minaj is the same bracket as MJ, The Beatles and Elvis?

I think Minaj's sound doesnt have the staying power to be with us in the next 5 months.
And that is a fact.. She sounds like a Re-hashed Missy Elliot.

Oh please, what's the difference?
If this website was around in '96 you guys would've been saying the same thing about Missy Elliot so on and so forth. You would've said "Elliot sounds like a rehashed Latifah" and it would've gone on forever.

It makes no difference to ya'll because it's all trash as far as you guys are concerned.
Dude this thread is NO different to the million and one threads we've seen in the past whenever a new artist comes out.

Insert different artist, wash, rinse, repeat...next year when another new artist comes to T&T to perform you guys will be saying the same.

Ah lie?

No you really can't say that. To tell you the truth i had no clue who the hell Minaj before this thread was made. That should say some thing about her market penetration as an artist. All the other artists you mentioned before are able to break barriers and create fans regardless of tastes in music.

Minaj cannot do that.
neither can BIG, Puffy, Jay Z, Sisqo..

Kanye can penetrate markets. He did with some of his huge hits in the earlies, Gold digger and Jesus Walks.

Plain talk bad manners, white people will not accept Minaj.
Which is why she won't be successful. No matter how weird she wants to be, that white dollar is important to the Rap industry.

Case in point, the greatest rapper alive:

Jay-Z cannot penetrate Markets.
He only gets the majority of his album sales in New York. Not across the USA.

East Coast Niche Market.

You talking real trash with regards to market penetration.
You forget during the 90's WHO was the leading purchaser of rap albums...Tupac, Biggie etc?

NOT URBAN YOUTH...it was suburbia. WHITE AMERICAN SUBURBIA was and still is the largest purchaser of Rap/Hip Hop Albums. What are you talking about no market penetration? Nicki Minaj is not even remotely big as the artists mentioned above. Hell she was still underground in '08 :?

Come on man, put some perspective into it. She's new... Of course you wouldn't of heard of her. Do you listen to hip-hop? or pop? regularly?

Hoss you talking REALLLLLLL toto

CJ you on crack. Jay-Z can go ANYWHERE in the entire world, and sell out. Anywhere!
Fricking Nepal, and he'd sell out their biggest arena.

THe Concert was doomed from the get go becuz the event management team had thier asses filled with thier own heads for half the time....and it was way past the stage of "well Banzai you eh know what you talking bout.." i was part of teh "section" that spearheaded the Fashion show...we had to use local designers to showcase while the local artistes performed thier peices....

that in itself had its challenges...but the gross lack of communication between the organizers of the show and other elements was unforgiving. The Show changed locations 3 times, and each time certain key ppl found out by hearsay....Nicky's coming was in the works since August....more than ample time to ramp up corporate sponsors and profile this as the next best ALL local concert since Kissidee Karavan days.

But when you get summoned to a sound check at 9pm on a "Storm watch" Friday only to relize that the roof of the stage is not erected (later found out that the owners of th stage kept it down in the event the storm actually hit...made sense) and have al lthe artistes jsut lull around while one of the Organizers mouth pieces kept doing the "Obama "speech of "we acn do it" was in poor taste. For our unit, you had at least 15 models plus 3 stylists and a co-ordinator that we had to pay transport for, keep them fed and watered and it wasnt cheap.

As for the Concert itself....... only two ppl really impressed me.....

Kinday showed experience on stage....(yeah he's one of us.....) I really think with time, Kinday cud emerge where General Grant and Machel dropped off...

Nicky's performance?....too loud...the sound engineer (whether her own or ours) had her sound like a busted pioneer speaker box .....too distorted...Nicky herself cud perform well on stage...she has that experience....but to me singing other ppls sounds to remixed tracks is not an art (sorry Rene....) its simply that....doing cover chunes. Thats not to say teh girl canr belt out skills eh...she can rap...and does it with a sense of effortlessness that you really hadda wonder if RUN DMC wereher parents....

concert cud have been a hit if the promoters marketed it like how Cohw does it...IN YUH FACE!! Chow been marketing Water Colorus et all for years to sell out capacities...they had teh backing of the Ministry of Sport....yet with all of that....fail.

So why you even pretending to know anything at all on the topic?

When Jay-Z came out with "Brooklyn we go hard"

I didn't care what part of the U.S. you were from, your color of skin, or your nationality background. This BANGED in the clubs...I heard everything, techno remixes, pop remixes, rock remixes, fricking emo remixes...it BANGED OUT the clubs. This song alone penetrated.

You couldn't get more Niche, Centralised and Focused that this song, yet it transcended all genres.

Oh gorm leywe not even go down that road...cause when other "certain" artists cover well known tracks, I don't see the cross section of so called, pat on the back audiophiles commenting or offering critiques from here to tomorrow.

Let's not even get into that. Please!

As soon as something new comes out, all the experts come flooding out:

"Dais sheit"
"Watch nah, in the past it was REAL music""
"No way this can be considered music, 4 score and 19 years ago it was much better"

Same story, again rinse and repeat...you guys sounding so typical.
When I was talking about the tight jeans thing, everyone throw up their arms and say "boy dat ghey jed"

But guess what? An entire generation doesn't think it's gay, and in 30 odd years, it will be the norm, and all you guys will start to look like those old men on the porch complaining about how much better fashion, music and art was back in your day. Allyuh don't even realise y'all turning into those very kind of people. Slowly but surely!!!

No it was his first(once he resigned from Gucci/YSL).

I honestly don't think I've ever smelt it. Will try to head over to Saks this weekend, I'll post up some thoughts if I do.

Thanks for noticing!

don't mean to go off topic but umm...Jay-Z has the most number on albums as a solo act....period,if that's not moving numbers I don't know what is.....the world is into a lot more things than your individual tastes guys. That actually surpasses Elvis.

I laugh at anyone who calls a non-fan a hater or basher wrt music, same for those who label those that make comparisons

Music like most art is subjective and opinions is what makes or breaks it, even the artiste or artist is subjective when he composes/performs/draws/creates as his life and experiences is his muse so tote if my opinion is different to yours, like I give a fcuk what anyone thinks about my choices in music

*this is not intended for anyone in particular it's meant to inform that we will all have differing opinions about what we play on our stereos and nothing is wrong with that*
