Caribbean Airlines MasterCard by RBC I can say this beacuse i had the AA card from RBL and one from Scotia Bank but RBC beat them... I got my RBC card in Oct. 2012 and I almost have a free one way ticket to a caribbean country which is 7500 miles.

rbc recently phased off the Mastercard FF and now offers the VISA FF, basically the same features and rewards just diff cc company, when looking at credit cards dont just look at the rewards and benefits those actually cost you in the long run, look at the customer service offered with the card and also the hidden fees and charges, RBC has interest and late payment fees lowest compared to any other financial institution also 24hr support and also the lowest annual fees on all visa and mastercards,

Yrs ago I had the bwee card with Royal. I never earned any free flight or upgrade. I switch to their card to get dividends and I get a cheque every month. I should have been better advised in which card to choose in first sign-up as I was my first cc.

Yeah I was thinking either one between the RBC and RBL. But the RBC one is Caribbean Airlines. Can you still go to the states and/or Europe with that. I know you could do that with the AA card from RBL.

You can redeem for any route that Caribbean airlines fly.

Scotia gold, I prefer to get back cash

One should never run their card into paying interest

the Aero from Scotia, the interest was too high! I really don't think there are any blackout dates with RBC card, but not too sure.

WTK Best Credit Card for Miles

Postby Slartibartfast » September 9th, 2016, 1:36 pm

Doesn't matter which bank. I was originally partial to republic bank since I am with them but after the service I got recently at one of their branches I thinking of moving all my accounts out of there. (Their other branches are normally really good but due to where I work I will have to deal with this one branch that I really can't stand to go back in)

Scotiabank Aero

With this card u pay the least number of miles for a ticket when compared to the others. You can also use any airline at anytime of the year for any seat in the plane.
While other cards require more miles per ticket and you can use it only on certain slow periods for only certain seats.

^^ what's the amount of miles needed for a one way to the US?

With RBC / CAL non platinum its 15,000 right now and you pay the taxes. Miles only cover the base fare, plus you need to book in advance since there are only a certain number of mile seats allocated on each flight. You can also pay various fees depending on how soon before your flight dates you are tryin to book.

You do get more for your miles with the RBC cal card. However, it's only on CAL and as your rightly said you do pay for the taxes. Still doesn't work out too bad though.

The scotia aero visa is far more versatile but you need more miles to use it.

If you're a big spender go Scotia. If not go RBC.

I have both cards and use them extensively over the years, both are very good cards but this is my 2 cents.

Scotia Areo Platinum best for ticket flight redemption
RBC Visa Platinum best for Car Rental Vouchers and Flight Redemption
Scotia advantages Greater Credit Limit/ Platinum Line for customers no wait if you have to go over the counter
RBC Low Credit Limit / NO Platinum Line for customers .

the Scotia Aero site states:

Caribbean to Miami (MIA), Orlando (MCO), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), & New York (JFK & LGA) - 20,000 points for economy and 30,000 points for business class on any airline for any seat at any time. You need to book it 14 working days before the flight. That is for return airfare with all taxes included. you can use it for travel packages too (airfare plus cruises and car rental etc)

Thanks for the info guys. The scotia bank card looks really good.

For comparison sake Republic Bank offers miles using the AA advantage program. It's 15,000 points for a one way ticket to the US during off peak periods.

More info here
https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-program/miles/redeem/award-travel/flight-award-chart.jsp
Seems versatile but way more expensive points wise.

Do I need a scotiabank account to apply for a credit card or is it like FCB where I can just apply for the credit card alone?

Only one I know of is Royal Bank Credit Card for CAL. It's pretty decent. Accumulate miles for every $6us spent I think.

So that makes miles take a while to get but it doesn't expire once you travel often.

But I also heard that Scotia has one that is applicable to any airline. Dunno how true that is.

With Scotia is 20k miles to Florida or new York. Can book up to two weeks before, no later. You just call and tell them the flight you want and seats and they would try try to book them. You just need to pay the taxes.

Scotia visa miles are excellent . There is even the ability to pay after you have booked your flight on any airline and no expiry date
