i bought a cannondale pump as well.. will have to get a helmet and tyre repair kit..

also, that seat harsh! my behind real hurting from about 1 hour of road riding today.. i gotta change that seat or get some kind of padding for it..

the bike needs some adjustments, one pad on the rear brake continuously touches the disc, making a squeaking noise at very low speeds..

and in certain gears, the chain keeps jumpin like it wants to change gear..
(i believe those can be adjusted.. i still gotta read the manual..)

other than that, the gears shift great, brakes hold quite strong and it handles nicely.. good buy..

i was going to buy the big cannondale pump, but it doesnt come with the frame mount so i didnt bother............
i'll have to do some looking around i dont like the helmets available....too little protection....i like the ones that skaters and bmx riders use....the ones that cover the entire hair line....but i'm concerned about the standards of those....so i'm currently on a block....
for the seat.....look at a WTB or selle gel seat....both can be gotten for about 30USD each....or go to a shop and see what they have......or get padded shorts....saw a pair at S&G, and it was $999

if the brake pad that moves touches the rotor, just turn the brake adjuster on the leaver in an anti clock wise direction.....if its the fixed pad thats touching, u'll need to loosen the bolts that attach the caliper to the adapter, and slide the caliper a fraction of a millimeter so it does not touch anymore......
for the gears slipping.......it takes some time to figure it out....
BTW try not to cross the chain i.e. smallest front gear with smallest rear gear, and largest front gear with largest rear gear.....that will wear out the chain quickly........

anyone use clipless pedals for mountain biking?
my current platform pedals are breaking/deformed from various impacts......
looking for an alternative....i'm getting Shimano PD M520 pedals for about $250 landed....which is a lot less than the local bike shops.......i'm thinking of ordering those, but i'm not sure what shoes to buy.....anyone has an experience with Shimano shoes?

i've had issues with the larger bicycle shops locally and would prefer not to support them........ :|

As we on the topic of bikes, could anyone recommend a good bike rack for a car? I've tried a couple of the Hollywood brand (I think), both the plain black one (their cheapest one I believe) which is a waste to me, and the silver one with the straps to hold the bike.

http://www.amazon.com/Hollywood-Racks-B ... 12&sr=8-18

The latter was obviously better than the first, but they both still let the bike scratch the back of my car (mainly from the pedal hitting the trunk).

Anyone tried any that keeps the bike WELL away from the back of the car??

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but you can check Geronimo's (Gene Samuel) on Pole Carew St in Woodbrook. Bought my Trek 4300 there not too long ago and love it. Tell him what your budget is and he'll fix you up to suit.

I just need to hit some nice biking places soon and see what the mountain bike experience is really like...

Hey guys, I am lookin to get into the Mountain Biking as well.
Went to mikes bikes but was not too impressed with the service.
Looking for a hardtail XC.
What are your thoughts on the Trek 6700 Disc and the Trek 8000?

Postby cacasplat3 » June 10th, 2010, 1:01 pm

make sure u want to go hardtail XC, i've found that after a bit more than a year, i wish i had bought a Full Suspension All Mountain.........if yur sticking to foot paths and trails/roads and no fast downhills then the hardtail will suit you perfectly...........you can also look at full suspension XC if you are looking for a bit more comfortable at the very small sacrifice of weight and efficiency........

even so the 6700 disc and 8000 have great reviews
http://www.mtbr.com/cat/bikes/xc-hardta ... 27crx.aspx
but i've never liked the extensive use of Bontrager parts on Trek bikes.........better components could be used on them, especially considering the overall price..........

BTW the Cannondale XC hardtails in sports and games are one sale again...........the only thing those bikes need to be better are hydraulic brakes and a better saddle.......which can be had for less than $1500.........

I was looking at both options and finally decided on hard tail because I think most of my riding will be light trails. I'll leave the hardcore stuff for later on.
