May 14th – Springvale Community Centre, Claxton Bay at 4:30pm
Community Profile
Sister’s Road is a small, remote rural village situated in the Savana Grande Ward. It extends from Sancho Road in the West to Busy Corner in the East and lies eight miles East of Princes Town. The community got its name from two sisters, who visited the village and fell in love with it. Sister’s Road is primarily a farming area and has been a producer of cocoa, coffee, citrus, gumma, corn, rice, sesame seeds, lumber and ground provision since the late 1800’s. Poultry rearing has also gained some prominence in recent years.
The community of Sister’s Road occupies a five-kilometre radius and the ethnic composition of the population is as follows: 40 percent East Indian, 35 percent Africans, 15 percent Mixed and 100 percent of Spanish descent.
The community is also a deeply religious one with a Mandir, Mosque, Roman Catholic Church and Pentecostal Church. Practising Anglicans hold their services at the Sister’s Road Anglican School and Seventh Day Adventist services are held at the Valentine’s Residence.
Sister’s Road is fitted with very limited infrastructure to address the concerns of the residents, as the only public buildings that exist are a Community Centre, a Postal Agency, a Pre-School and the Sister’s Road Anglican School. Although there is a recreational ground, it is underutilised.
There is a 98 percent supply of electricity to households and streets, as well as a consistent supply of pipe-borne water about five days per week. Ninety-five percent of the community have access to TSTT landlines and forty-five percent have Internet access. The residents also have Cable and DirecTV.
Transport facilities include private cars, a few taxis and a public bus. Due to the condition of the roads, it is difficult for the elderly to travel and drivers are threatening to increase their fares, since car maintenance costs are very high. Road repair is needed, particularly for the access roads of: Nuckcheddy, Sancho and Bagwantie, as well as the upgrade of bridges.
The economic activities of Sister’s Road are based mainly on Agriculture (farming, gardening). Twenty percent of the work force is employed with the Government (45 percent in Agriculture) and 35 percent are unemployed.

was just browsing through and I saw this gem...I can say for a FACT that the Bon Air West Community Centre was COMPLETED and in use way before 2010. because I live there. Nizam Baksh pass through and put a plaque on the front like if he build it.. HE HAVE NO SHAME...UML does argue that this govt does finish things that weren't completed she calls it DELIVERY...but they taking credit for things that finish build 3+ years before they in government!
While on the subject on DELIVERY why is it that they can DELIVER on all these buildings started under them, but they can't DELIVER on the government campus building downtown POS that was 80% completed? Is it SPITEFULNESS? They don't want people to know that PNM was working for them?
Anyways...back to Bon Air West...the community centre was being run by the people WITHIN the community for years for free(you know..because they live there and actually care about the neighbourhood) and in 2011 the government found it fit to put a new "board" in place to run the centre...and pay them btw...and some of the folks not even from Bon Air West..they from Lopinot...
it would be funny if it weren't so tragic

Such is the nature of projects that take longer to complete that the average span between elections.

promises vs DELIVERY!!!
were they not achieved by the PPG?
were they not achieved within 2010 to 2015?
We have a 7 day memory.
Please Stop Frothing!!!
For beginners you should know I have voted in 5 general elections and 4 local government elections and not once have I ever voted for PNM. So I have no reason to have chess burn or butthurt for any of their underachievement.
As to substantiation of claims here is an extract of the 2005 Budget Statement
" Community Development
Mr. Speaker, at the heart of the Community Development thrust is the Community Centres programme that focuses on the provision of appropriate accommodations for the conduct of community affairs. We intend to initiate construction of 100 community centres throughout the country commencing in the 2006 fiscal year. In addition, we propose to spend over $142 million on the upgrading and establishment of community sporting facilities, including swimming pools, playfields and jogging tracks to facilitate the participation of families in recreational activities.......http://legacy.guardian.co.tt/archives/2 ... 21/b5.html"
By the time this budget was read (Sep 2005) scope of works and conceptual drawings had been completed already. The engagement of architects and engineering consultants happened in 2006-2007. Construction of most of the CCs were already happening by May 2010. Project Management of these centres were done via various state agencies such as Nipdec, MTS as well the Ministry themselves.
Post the 2010 elections a lot of Government funded construction activity would have slowed or stopped completely due to implementation of new ministers, boards etc.
Was there proper PM in the construction of these centres? - maybe not
Were these centres the idea of the PNM and were they started under the PNM?(My initial point) - Yes

So why boots out the former director of the Security Intelligence Agency who was installed under the PNM administration and put in the "well qualified" Reshmi Usha Ramnarine? This is just one example of many.
UML, I'll see you at Brazil on Monday.

I don't know how long again you all would continue to use this excuse for Aunty Kamala:
I guess the PM was misinformed because she does not know it all and depends on her advisors.
She is very well informed of the activities within her party.
And the PPG does not do this?with accusations of impropriety on spying on ppl for political gain, . . .
UML, why don't you post up the installation of new spying, sorry, electronic communications monitoring, equipment by the Israelis up at Matura as an achievement by the PPG? As far as I understand, that project came in within schedule and budget.
A current Minister who is housed in a very lavishly equipped office is "allegedly" building a mall in the Netherlands. As far as I understand, that project is also currently within schedule and budget. He should probably bring his contractor here to show the locals how construction and project management should be done.
The PNM is far, very far in fact, from being a clean cut party. But the way you promote the PPG as the next best thing to sliced bread without knowing all the facts, just shows how blind you really are to the reality of the current situation.
Long live the PPG!!!!
