Wife dies, husband injured after car slams into couple

A Williamsville gardener was killed while her husband was injured after a car slammed into them, dragging them metres away from where they were. The couple was waiting for transport to their garden yesterday.

Radica Mohammed, 43, died while being treated at the San Fernando General Hospital, while her husband Anand, 58, is in a stable condition.

The incident occurred around 9.15 am at Sisters Road in Hardbargain.

Mohammed’s cousin Teddy Ramcharan recalled that he was sitting in the gallery while Mohammed and her husband were sitting on the side of the road, opposite his house waiting for transport.

He said a white car proceeding on the left lane suddenly swerved across to the right lane and slammed into the couple. He said the car dragged Mohammed a distance before slamming into a parked Tiida.

Mohammed was pinned under the car but was conscious and crying out for help. Her relatives used a backhoe and lifted the car off of her.

The ambulance arrived an hour later and took the couple to the hospital. Mohammed had one child, a 16-year-old daughter.

1st problem on that light is everybody figure their right of way extends into running the light.
2nd problem is the folks at the head of the line take their time to accelerate so the light interval doesnt allow for much vehicles to move, thereby generating extra traffic.

Put a permanent police presence at that light and you'll see how the accidents drastically decrease.
