Bulletin#2
Date: Tuesday 23rd of November 2010
ISSUED AT:04:18PM
THE ITCZ INTERACTING WITH A LOW LEVEL TROUGH
CONTINUES TO AFFECT WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER
TRINIDAD.
This bulletin updates the bulletin issued at
12.30pm earlier today.
During the last three hours, cloudy conditions
increased over both Trinidad and Tobago resulting
in periods of moderate to heavy showers, and rain.
Trinidad also experienced widely spaced
thundershowers. These conditions are due to the
ITCZ interacting with a low level trough east of
the twin island republic.
The above conditions are forecasted to continue
over the next 4 to 6 hours with rainfall
accumulations likely to yield amounts in excess
of 40 millimeters. Street and flash flooding
along with gusty winds in excess of 40 km/h are
expected to continue accompanying heavy showers
and thundershowers.
In this context some river courses of moderate
carrying capacities have become overwhelmed with
rainfall run-off and this is expected to
continue; while land slippage/slides are highly
possible in areas so prone, given the forecast
conditions for more rainfall and the previous
conditions.
Reports from the Water Resources Agency indicate
that North Oropuche in the Sangre Grande area,
Mamoral in Caparo basin area and Rio Claro are
becoming inundated.
Citizens are therefore advised to continue to be
vigilant and cautious as they conduct their
activities. Be alert to any electrical discharges
from thundercloud activity and adopt measures
which would preserve life and property.
WE STRONGLY UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS
NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR
WARNING AT THIS TIME.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Services
is closely monitoring conditions and will issue
another bulletin if the situation warrants.

RIVERINE FLOOD ALERT!
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Services is
placing Trinidad on a flood alert particularly for
areas in south and central Trinidad.
Reports from the Water Resources Agency indicate
that water levels in the nation’s major rivers
are approaching threshold levels considering the
daily rainfall episodes over the last several
days. Although water levels in the primary Caroni
River remain contained at this moment, it is
nevertheless threateningly high.
Given the additional rainfall received from 5:00am
this morning in south and central Trinidad and
those forecast for today particularly for those
areas, the possibility of river overtopping is
real and imminent, if it has not occurred already
in some low-lying areas.
Citizens in general and those residing in the
Caroni River Basin in particular are asked to be
on the alert for rising river waters and possible
overspill. All necessary measures MUST be taken to
preserve life and property.
WE STRONGLY UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS
NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR
WARNING AT THIS TIME.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is
closely monitoring weather conditions and will
issue another bulletin at 6:00pm later this
evening.

Date: Friday 26th of November 2010
ISSUED AT:10:10AM
FLOOD CONCERNS ARE CURRENT DUE TO PERIOD OF
RAIN/SHOWERS OVER TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO TODAY
Following a timely respite to allow river outflows
and flood retreat, rainfall activity in connection
with a mildly re-energized Inter-Tropical
Convergence Zone (ITCZ) has once again resumed.
These bouts of rain/showers over both Trinidad
and Tobago are expected to last into the
afternoon hours of today and produce between 25
to 35 millimeters of rainfall. So far the
northeast sector of Trinidad has received the
heavier downpours.
Although today’s rainfall activity is not
expected to be overly disruptive to routine daily
activities, water-logged grounds and swollen river
courses have presented undesirable pre-conditions
to receive the current and forecast rainfall
run-off.
Out of an abundance of caution and given existent
circumstances, the Trinidad and Tobago
Meteorological Services is advising the general
Trinidad population to observe due care and
attention cognitive of any recurring flood
scenarios.
Citizens residing in Trinidad’s Northeast region
and in the Caroni River Basin are advised to
continue adopting measures to preserve life and
property in treating with what is an already
distressing situation.
WE STRONGLY UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS
NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR
WARNING AT THIS TIME.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is
closely monitoring weather conditions and will
issue another bulletin if the situation
warrants.
