Jose Mourinho addressed the media the day prior to facing Barcelona in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.
"The best possible result against Barcelona is to win the tie. The team that's eliminated from the Copa del Rey will play two less games in February and we actually want to play those two fixtures. It will be a great match and we're going to go all out for a victory. It's not a summer tournament, so we'll do our very best. The Copa is our third priority this season, but that's the game we'll play tomorrow. That which isn't a priority tomorrow is more important. Nobody plays to lose."
"Cristiano Ronaldo did a great job against Mallorca. He scored many goals one and a half years ago, as well as many hat-tricks. We also won a title with a goal of his. But I've felt most happy and proud of him with the job he did in the second half against Mallorca. He worked like an animal and did what the team needed. He was exhausted from working so hard and making so many steals. The team is most important and I told him he didn't need to score if he worked like that."
"Di Maria will be on the squad list. He's not as fit as we had hoped. We don't have the best feeling about things, but we'll have to wait. He's made the cut, but I'm not going to announce my lineup because I don't know whom I'll use yet, although I wouldn't hint at things either if I knew. The league is our priority and I'm not going to say different from that."
"This is the sort of game in which I'll be criticised for using Ramos as right back because he is a phenomenal centre back. I'll also be criticised if Fabio plays in that position because he is left footed, or if Lass plays there because it means Khedira has to play in midfield. If Pepe plays as centre back you lot will criticise me because you'll say he does better in midfield, but if he plays as a midfielder you'll say he had to play in defence. If I use three centre midfielders you'll say we had to attack, and if we play an offensive game you'll say we didn't consider the return leg. You'll question my decision to use Higuain over Benzema because the latter is in great form, but you'll do so in the opposite case because Higuain played a great role in Mallorca. It's better to go to the cinema than it is to think about criticism."
"It's possible, and necessary, that Carvalho reappears in January. Ramos and Lass have four bookings each and many players, such as Pepe, Arbeloa and Fabio, have three. They are all necessary. Carvalho will be ready to respond when needed."
"Barcelona are a great team and a formidable adversary regardless how many defenders they use against us. My relationship with Barcelona is as it's always been. I don't have a problem with them; I never have."
Pepe wrote:"I wish to say yesterday's incident with Leo Messi was unintentional, but I neverteheless want to apologise to him if he was offended because all I do is defend my team and this institution. I give my heart and soul, and the thought of hurting a colleague has never enetered my mind."

if you watch it properly he tried with the previously step and missed, but got through with the next step. That was so retarded
Times of India wrote:MADRID: Jose Mourinho shrugged off the first public outcry by Real Madrid fans against him, saying the whistling during the 4-1 home win over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday comes with the job at a club where "they jeer the biggest names in football."
Four days after Madrid lost yet again under him to fierce rival Barcelona, the Portuguese coach was repeatedly jeered despite the team collecting its 23rd win from 25 games to maintain a five-point lead over Barcelona atop the Spanish league standings.
"(Zinedine) Zidane was also whistled here. Ronaldo was whistled here. Cristiano Ronaldo, a Ballon d'Or winner, was whistled here. Why can't I be whistled here?" Mourinho said. "Zidane responded with his football, Ronaldo the same. Cristiano keeps doing it, I keep working.
Mourinho's arrival at the Bernabeu was celebrated after leading Inter Milan to the Champions League title in 2010, and he said if he'd been heckled at a club where it was not normal then he would be concerned.
"If they jeered me at a club where they don't normally jeer anybody, then I may be worried. But here, where they jeer the biggest names in football, it's not a problem," Mourinho said. "It never happened before at Porto, at Chelsea or at Inter. There is a first for everything."
Fans began to show their discontent over his tactics toward the end of the 2-1 loss to Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals on Wednesday - the club's ninth defeat in 13 matches against its biggest rival. The second leg is on Wednesday.
Sports daily Marca reported earlier Sunday that most of the squad is unhappy that several of the Spanish players had aired grievances with Mourinho, who reportedly did not take kindly to the criticism.
Specifically, Mourinho and defender Sergio Ramos reportedly disagreed about a number of issues related to the team.
"What Sergio wanted to say was that if we fail we are all responsible, the players and the coaches," Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa said. "Whistles against Mou are whistles against us, it's unfair to put all the blame on him for last Wednesday. If anyone deserves the whistles, it's us."
Mourinho refused to comment on the allegations despite being asked several times in his post-match news conference, with the Madrid media's absolute support for him having now dipped following the defeat to Barcelona.
"I'm a football professional who will defend Real Madrid with dignity," Mourinho said. "They are never going to have any problem with me, my relation with the club's board is fantastic."
Tensions also showed in the player ranks against Bilbao, with Ronaldo unhappy at being shoved by Xabi Alonso after arguing with the referee about a 28th-minute booking.
Madrid fullback Marcelo tried to downplay any friction.
"I think you could see on the field there's nothing to that," he said. "If there was division that would have affected us, and today you could see that wasn't the case."
