Unbeaten Bayern
Bayern Munich extended their unbeaten run to 33 Bundesliga games with the 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen. The Bavarians are now closing on Hamburg's record of 36 games, which was set in January 1983.

Club World Cup draw outlines paths for Bayern Munich, Atlético Mineiro

Bayern Munich will face Africa or Asia’s champions in the semifinals, while South American representatives Atlético Mineiro will take on one of Monterrey (Mexico), Auckland City (New Zealand) or Raja Casablanca (Morocco). That’s the result of today’s draw in Marrakesh, where the eight teams that will participate in the 2013 Club World Cup were slotted into the bracket for this December’s tournament.
After spending six of the last eight years in Japan, the tournament shifts to Africa for the first time, with Morocco winning the rights to host the annual competition among confederation champions. Raja Casablanca, as champions of the host nation’s domestic league, join the five confederation winners that have already qualified: Bayern Munich (Europe), Atlético Mineiro (South America), Monterrey (North/Central America, the Caribbean), and Aukland City (Oceania).
Champions from Asia and Africa have yet to be crowned, with those winners to face each other in the quarterfinal in Bayern Munich’s half of the draw. China’s well-funded juggernaut, Guangzhou Evergrande, will face FC Seoul (Korea) in the finals of Asia’s Champions League, while four teams (Cameroon’s Coton Sport, Tunisia’s Esperance, Egypt’s Al-Ahly, and South Africa’ Orlando Pirates) remain alive to represent Africa.
On the other side of the draw, Monterrey enters in the quarterfinals to face the winner of Raja Casalanca and Aukland City. Waiting in the semis? Ronaldinho and Atlético Mineiro.
It’s all a bit confusing, but that’s what you’re left with when a bracket that looks like this (snapshot, Wikipedia) …
… with a draw occurring before two spots have been decided.
Regardless, we’re left with to potentially intriguing semifinals; at least, intriguing by this normally overlooked tournament’s standards. Bayern Munich could end up facing Marcello Lippi, Dario Conca, and whomever else Guangzhou buys before the tournament, while an Atlético Mineiro team fighting to secure a top-four finish in Brazil will take on a Monterrey side still looking for their Club World Cup breakthrough.
Atlético will also be looking to replicate the achievement of last year’s South American representatives, with Corinthians defeating Chelsea to claim 2012′s world title.
This year’s tournament begins on Dec. 11, with the final taking place in Marrakesh on Dec. 21.

Bayern dominate FIFA Player of the Year nominations
ZURICH | Tue Oct 29, 2013 4:52am EDT
(Reuters) - Six players from Bayern Munich's treble-winning team were included among the 23 nominees for the World Player of the Year award announced by FIFA on Tuesday.
Jose Mourinho was included on the shortlist for Coach of the Year despite failing to win any major trophies with Real Madrid last season, a performance the Portuguese himself described as "disastrous".
The only British player to make the list was Wales international Gareth Bale.
African Nations Cup winning coach Stephen Keshi of Nigeria was overlooked and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was the only African to make either list. There were no representatives from Asia or CONCACAF.
German internationals Manuel Neuer, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Mueller and Philipp Lahm, Frenchman Franck Ribery and Dutchman Arjen Robben were the Bayern players on the list.
Joining the Bayern contingent were the usual favorites such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bayern's former coach Jupp Heynckes, since replaced by Pep Guardiola, was on the coaches list after leading his side to a Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League treble.
The omission of Bayern's Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic was a surprise as many critics felt he had made the difference between last season and 2011/12, where Bayern were runners-up in all three competitions.
Brazil's Luiz Felipe Scolari, whose side hosted and won the Confederations Cup in June, was the only South American to make the coaching shortlist.
Radamel Falcao, Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez, Neymar and Thiago Silva were the South American nominees for the Player of the Year award, along with Messi. All six are based in Europe.
Although several of the nominated coaches failed to win a major trophy last season, Mourinho's nomination was the biggest surprise as his side's results fell far short of Real Madrid's expectations.
They finished 15 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, lost to smaller neighbors Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey final and were outclassed by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-finals.
Atletico's Argentine coach Diego Simeone was overlooked.
"The list of 23 male candidates has been drawn up by football experts from the FIFA Football Committee and by a group of experts from France Football," said FIFA in a statement.
It said the final decisions would be made by the captains and coaches of the national teams and international media representatives selected by France Football magazine. The ceremony takes place in Zurich on January 13.
