got this on twitter from SB reporter Tom Ziller abt today's meetings:
That said, that it took the league and union five hours to do nothing shouldn't be surprising. They recently spent two years doing nothing.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

NBA preseason canceled, season opening in jeopardy

The NBA has canceled its preseason, and the first two weeks of the regular season are in jeopardy as team owners and players remain at odds over a new labor deal.

"By Monday, we will have no choice but to cancel the first two weeks of the season," NBA Commissioner David Stern said Tuesday.

The cancellation of all 114 preseason games will mean a loss of about $200 million in revenue, he said. The NBA already had announced the cancellation of some preseason games.

"And we're looking down the barrel of losing regular-season games. There's an extraordinary hit coming to the owners and to the players," Stern said.

Agreed, very unfortunate since the last season was fantastic. Felt fresh and full of possibilities. This season might have men playing bummy if at all :|

Free agency and training camps will start on Dec. 9, Stern said. Under the current agreement, the regular season would have a 66-game schedule that begins on Christmas Day with three games: Boston Celtics at the New York Knicks; Miami Heat at the Dallas Mavericks; and Chicago Bulls at the Los Angeles Lakers. :wiggle:

Someone asked LeBron what he thought about the shortened season. He said “We still get to play three quarters of the games. Which is all I play anyway”.

So the Lakers, Whorenets and Rockets agreed to a trade where CP3 went to LA, Gasol to Houston, and Odom, Scola and Martin to NO. Since the Whorenets are owned by the NBA, David Stern decides he doesn't like the trade and cancels it.

:? Sad eh..... Injuries ..............

Usher of a new era in Portland, Roy ends career all too soon

Knowing what we now know, it was one of the greatest good-byes in recent basketball history, the hoops equivalent of Regis Philbin wiping away a tear.
Brandon Roy didn't last as long in his chosen profession, but at least he made that stretch in Game 4 last spring seem like a lifetime of brilliance.
The amazing part was how he did it, how he sliced through the eventual champion Dallas Mavericks for 24 points and hearing a thunderous postgame standing ovation, given how his knees belonged on a 65-year-old.
