last week, a chap fell down at high speed going down chancellor near boy scouts

he hit his head and helmet split
did not suffer any head damage

I wonder if he was not wearing his helmet what would have happened
surely he will continue to wear a helmet in future, lol

Clearly he wasn't a militant, tuck and roll for the win...glad the helmet helped him though. Amateur or experienced cyclist?

I noticed recently in my giant mtb that the back rear hub has a side to side play if you hold the tire and shift it left to right it can move a couple millimeter.

Shitty mikes bikes only gave me 3 months warranty so thats up now. This is an indicator to never buy anything from them in future. One of the back spoke also broke it came out where the bulge is at the hub so I took out the spoke and bent it into a little hook and put it back on now its good.
Could this play in the hub be a result of my obesity? And the recent brekaing of the spoke end?

I probably did like um 400 miles by now on it.

I wonder how much something like this will cost to fix?

if I take out the whole quick release setup.

And I hold the hub knot and pull it you can see it moves a couple millimeter in and out. I read online it needs a cone wrench to tighten it.

I think its best I carry it by bike inn and let them sort it out. Lets say something is worn inside it worst case scenario it would just need new bearings right?

Trying to understand how your problem is Mike's Bikes fault? I'm not in any way an advocate of his business, but 3mths warranty seems pretty standard afaik. How does riding a bike for 400miles and getting a problem translate to you never buying from them?

Was the bike regularly serviced and by whom? If by them, then I would say definitely that's reason enough to question their business practices but outside of that I find your logic confusing. Help me understand please, because I am looking to buy another bike atm and they are one of my options.

Guys thinking about selling one of my mountain bikes to upgrade.

I have the 2013 Trek Elite 3700 Disc

The bike handles awesome on or offroad. The ride and gear changes are very smooth. Quality is amazing. I thought my Fuji was a great bike but Trek takes Win!

Bike is in excellent condition and serviced regularly. Only a year old!
Price $4000.00 Negotiable

please let me know if anyone is interested

If the spoke break out, it could be as a result of wear and tear, coupled with your weight if you really that big. Usually over use the spokes might slacken a bit and need tightening. Loose spokes would give the rim a warped spin.
If one broke out and wasn't connected properly, there would be a point where it doesn't have ideal support, and can cause it to deform/ or be bent awkwardly. Shouldn't be that expensive to change. Just carry it back and have them service it, or if you don't want to go by them then anywhere else.

Heavy weight along with a lot of shock on a rim can cause that kind of trouble, like how those trick mongoose bikes had almost twice the amount of spokes as the regular ones, to compensate for the drops on the back wheel.

well for starters 3 months warranty is a scam since they claim to be the authorized distributor for Giant. If they were an authorized distributor then you are supposed to get 1 year warranty. So don't go around thinking that its somehow ok for someone to give you 3 months warranty when they claim such things and to top it off they have a bike shop so its not like they have to ship back your whole bike

Ontop of that his workers claimed to have serviced the bike yet they made it worse, the chain won't even go on the largest gear in the back now LOL. So I would have to adjust that myself when I get time.

Another problem also is that since this bike was cheap being $2700, they didn't think it was worth spending too much effort on to address anything properly.

I would consider that horse sheit logic.

I recommend Bike Inn since they have 6 months warranty and those guys are very helpful. I saw when people brought in bikes damaged because of their negligence and dropping the bike down, bike inn would still fix it regardless.

Since I am 260 pounds I would think its the reason for these issues on my bike. Though this giant is still pretty tough with all the abuse I does give it. I never regretted a second of it, was money well spent if you ask me regardless of the problems.

Giant are generally good bikes...strong frames for sure. I'm leaning towards Trek though. I like their bikes and have had good experience with the service at Geronimo's who are the distributor.

Why are you correcting what does not need correcting?

If you re-read my post you would see that I made no such inference.

Gloves , helmet , water bottle or camel pak , if you feeling unsure when riding the trails get some knee an elbow pads. Also get a spare tube , small pump and small tool kit to keep in your camel pak. You do t want to get a flat and have to walk out with your bike
