Parliament will convene a special sitting on Monday to debate the new notification for the nomination of Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Harold Phillip, for the post of Commissioner of Police.

Yeah, and Williams planning to buss out in September. He has 2 years of accumulated vacation which will take him to age 60 where he will retire. He would stay if he get thru as CoP but from the looks of things, that not happening unless the PSC send a notification again to the Parliament nominating him where the Government confirm him.

Parliament to debate nomination of Stephen Williams for top cop

The parliament will have to sit again next Friday to discuss the nomination of Stephen Williams as commissioner of police.

The parliament has proceeded on July August vacation and means it will have to sit in emergency session to discuss the notification from the police service commission.

Last week, the parliament rejected the nomination of Harold Phillip who was the second-ranked nominee.

Once the parliament rejects a nomination, the constitution provides that the next ranked candidate is submitted for consideration.

It is expected that Williams' notification will also be rejected as the government has indicated the process conducted by the PSC was flawed.

Williams, who has been acting as commissioner of police since the departure of Canadian Dwayne Gibbs, has been given twelve extensions. He is expected to proceed on retirement leave in September.

If it's true Gary is the last on the merit list, and he gets rejected, millions gone down the drain. Deputy CoP will be the same and a next set of millions going down the drain too.

I really hope he gets chosen since from all indications, he was in the lead for CoP while Dulalchan was in the lead for Deputy until the PSC decide to do their own thing and mix up everybody.

Gary will give out some FULs, he's a businessman, a family man and a shooter and knows the struggles some good legitimate applicants face in this regard, also he's gonna science the sheit outta crime,I say we have a good opportunity here with Gary, dealt with him in the past and he's as straight as you can get in T&T on that level.

Agreed, remember Dulalchan and Phillip up there in administrative. They may partially obstruct Griffith in executing his duties because he got confirmed and they got blanked even tho they didn't apply for the position.
