A SNAKE in the Parliament?

Parliament sources were mum yesterday on a report that officials from the Emperor Valley Zoo were called in to search the Parliament chamber for what was suspected to be a snake.

The snake was thought to have made its way into the Parliament chamber last week.

Information reaching the Sunday Express indicated a shed snakeskin was found in the chamber last Tuesday during a regular cleaning exercise.

Sources said upon analysis (of the skin) by the relevant experts, the type of snake was deemed to be non-venomous and harmless.

Nevertheless Parliament officials and zoo officials spent two days—last Wednesday and Thursday—trying to locate the snake, apparently without success since sources disclosed the search resumed yesterday.

The zoo officials were there yesterday again.

The Parliament chamber has been unused for several weeks as both Houses were on August recess.

Sittings resumed last Friday.

The history of photography has roots in remote antiquity with the discovery of two critical principles, that of the camera obscura (darkened or obscured room or chamber) and the fact that some substances are visibly altered by exposure to light, as discovered by observation. As far as is known, nobody thought of bringing these two phenomena together to capture camera images in permanent form until around 1800, when Thomas Wedgwood made the first reliably documented, although unsuccessful attempt. In the mid-1820s, Nicéphore Niépce succeeded, but several days of exposure in the camera were required and the earliest results were very crude.
