I know of two persons who whilst on shoulder daytime with car breakdown/flat almost got hit by drivers getting distracted and drifting on to shoulder, not overtaking or bad driving.

There are a lot of drivers who can't keep a straight line when slightly distracted and effect is probably worse when on a very straight road and they seeing you from a distance and looking at you wondering why you on the side of the road.

Rumble strips serve to wake up sleeping/drunk drivers as well as discourage shoulder overtaking.

Isn't it ironic that your name contradicts the very suggestion you're making? Did you know that in a vehicle-pedestrian accident, the death rate doubles by just going from 40 km/h to 55 km/h? So by your logic, 70 km/h is still too fast. What low speeds can do is give a driver enough time to react to the stupidity we see on the roads daily, but slow driving on the highway can do more harm than good.

The rumble strips are an excellent idea for the shoulder, but there are some sections of the highway itself, where rumble strips were pre-installed, but that's another story by itself. Simple things, can save lives. Keep left or at least move across when a vehicle is behind you giving you lights, requesting to pass. If there's a hole in the road, slow down and go through or wait until the other side is completely clear before swinging out. I'm often amazed at the decision making skills of some drivers, who would rather spend more money to fix the broadside of your vehicle and theirs, than to change a pair of shocks and fix a pair of rims if theyre approaching a big enough hole too fast, but then if your license can come home to meet you for the right price, threads like these will just keep on growing.

RIP to the fallen and condolences if they have any family members on this forum.

Regarding rumble strips...I don't know if you noticed the faster you go over then the less you feel and hear them. That is not really a deterrent for people who blazing down the shoulder.

Regarding the incidents or near misses involving cars being attended too on the shoulder... Some drivers on the highways may have succumbed to the phenomenon of Target fixation.

Depends how rough they make the rumble strips
Or just put some ditches every 100ft

There u go....and my username is my trinituner right. As is yours. No irony there.
Also, by your logic we should drive either golf cart *with even lower speed governor*, bull cart or donkey cart. No more 40 kph capable transportation
So that means no horse cart either..

I drew reference to those speeds to show that even at such low speeds, a vehicle-pedestrian accident can be fatal. All I'm saying, is don't succumb to the TTPS' mentality and outlook that speed is the only detrimental factor when it comes to road fatalities, not that anything else matters to them in any case, because they're seemingly only focused on maintaining a quota as opposed to being concerned about the safety of the traveling public, which would then incorporate severely cracking down on shoulder drivers and other peanut brains who take driving as a joke.

^^^ Since my UWI days travelling from Chag to Curepe, these police play with these taxi drivers. Remember a couple of times there was a rasta who used to drive an orange 7 seater, always on the shoulder. Get pull over multiple times, once they make him reverse on the shoulder for a significant distance and merge back in traffic (this make no sense to me). But every time is a bligh with the officers. Start charging these errant driver till they have nothing left to pay with, then suspend their license.

Dang!
People love to pretend hydroplaning doesn't exist especially vans, splashing through water on the highway.
