Top Cops Confused on Air Rifles
Good Day all , as an interested and licensed air rifle enthusiast. The comments of the embattled Police Commissioner and top brass of the police service on the the topic of Air Rifles , need much more clarification. The current legislation governing firearms in Trinidad and Tobago is the Firearms Act 16.01 of 1972 last updated in 2011 . Like so many prices of our legislation it is quite outdated . However this legislation does not cover air guns
The license for air guns prescribes .177 smooth bore air rifles. Main manufacturers have long moved away from smooth bore to rifled bore , because of the poor accuracy of smooth bore . Many persons use these guns to practice , competitive targets, rodent and pest control.
In a pure functional capacity the air guns prescribed by some legislation are synonymous to a gun used in the American Civil War in the operation of the prescribed air gun. Currently there is petition to be taken to the relevant authorities with more than 400 signatures to change this legislation/ legal postion. To the COP: Do you know that many of these air guns cost twice or thrice as much as the real legal deal ?

but i doubt govt would change a law/rule just so without consultation with the existing authority
pugboy wrote:even if it is not a law change then guess what, it is the police cop who has to change the "two lines" in the little permit letter
so it is about police at the end of the day
