Depends on the soil type. Sandy type soils are less prone to shrinkage or swelling, so the foundation can be smaller. Also is the area flat or sloping?

A typical foundation consist of A continuous strip footing with U bars at the base and L bars coming up with 6" blocks loaded with a 1:2: 4 mix or 1/2 + 1/2 gravel. This is primarily for flat areas. For sloping areas it can still be used except the strip footing will have to be stepped up or down.

A strip of 18" wide x 12"thick, together with 12" x 12" beams for internal load bearing walls. Steel comprising 16mm with 10mm stirrups can be used. Depending on the height of the floor 2 or 3 rows of blocks may be required. It is a little over designed, as I dont know the specifics. However this gives added longevity to your structure

Average cost - $50,000.00 to $60,000.00 up to the finished floor. Also how much you do yourself will determine costs.

Remember that the cover to steel is 2" min in foundation.

Also read up the foregoing great advise ........

Cleaning up a work site and have 2 truck loads of rubble consisting of concrete and red blocs; mortar (majority) and a stair. If anyone wants to use it for landfill you are welcome to it. The location is St. Joseph.

Just did a boundary wall with concrete blocks. They did a 20 inches x 2 ft trench and 4 ft for the posts 10 ft apart.
However they didnt put the tie bars in the bottom layer of bricks and fill it with concrete. Will that wall be ok? We are going to put a beam on the top.

1350 sq ft. @ $10 per sq ft. That is Varma's price, there are cheaper prices but I only buy from them.

Yes you can put a beam on top, which is primarily to tie the top of the wall as the column or posts will carry the load. Was the block casted in the columns or posts? That will help.

Not putting reinforcement in the bottom layer of concrete blocks is only critical if the wall is to be used to retain soil. Note boundary walls can be used as a retaining wall. A reinforced concrete wall is better at resisting the lateral load from the soil or retained materials up to the height of the material. For walls higher than one metre you will need to treat differently.

I know people who bought roofing sheets and it faded in one month and have big rust spots in it too. Chinese material isn't any good. Varma sheets can go up to a ten foot span without props. It's worth the $2 more, plus you get free delivery. If you have transport you can get it right away.

yes no doubt, but from my personal experience with this material it was excellent. i never bought anything from r maye but this was a good buy for me. the white painted surface looks like a baked on type finish. very durable imo
there was some scratches on a couple sheets after dragging it on the rc cross beams and the scratches not even deep enough too see the metal. the top of the sheet also had a grey coating

I am looking for rubble, broken bricks and mortar or anything similar to help fill a roadway.

Site is located in St. Helena, one minute from the junction by gas station and KFC.

The road access to the piece to be constructed is paved and has turning points for ease of transport

Call Dev 355 5865

Thanks in advance

I am about to begin construction of my home. i just need an average material list for the typical and tradional foundation, posts and decking. when the frame is up, then i will block around, so i can know what i can afford, trying to do most of it myself, what i cannot do i will get help. The size of the foundation and decking will be 30 by 40. I just need to know how much steel, gravel, lumber, cement etc. i need. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest getting a set of plans first. Your foundation depends on the type of building and the soil that it sits on.

I am sure that someone around here has some building plans that you can look at. The structural drawings should include a BOM (bill of material) that lists everything that you need down to the amount of tie-wire.

Can anyone recommend an architect, looking to do some additions to an existing single storey house.

Have some ideas but I need to see it on paper and get an idea of the cost involved etc.

Folks, I am looking for about 15 sheets of used construction ply either 5/8" or 3/4" to block around a wooden shed, if you all know of anyone who has for sale. I am even willing to work with half sheets as long as they are still 8' wide.

PM or whatsapp/msg me.
738-5863. Thanks.

Advice on getting the co-ax out or getting the Cat 5 in? Everything together in that 1/2 conduit will be very tight especially in bends.

The best method would be for you to remove both the telephone and coax at the same time. You will need to Securely attach a polypropylene drag line to the end of the two cables and pull both cables out from the other end.

Use the drag line to pull a heavier cord into the conduit. Use this cord to attach to the ethernet and telephone cables. Now pull the two cables into the conduit.

You'll probably need a helper.
You'll probably need some pulling lube (some use diluted dish soap
but I don't recommend it.)
Loop and tape it together well. 1/2" conduit will catch your pull if the size of the loop from the cable to the cord is too big.

It sounds easy but it seldom is.
