Hey want some input from tuners who use different comapnies as a point of reference. Drive through 2 hrs traffic today to reach tropical express office trincity an realize i forget my wallet. Had $50tt and my 2 packages (keyboard and scan tool) were 25 and 75 respectively so i decided to clear the keyboard and do the replacement in my laptop tom when i have time.

They then informed me that i HAVE to clear both , can't clear just one cuz "thaz how the system is"

I really find this system to be stupid and counterproductive and i even explained my situation but to no avail. So i ask again, is this the norm at other establisments or is Tropical Express "special"?

have i got skybox all wrong?

i bought a safe from USA and it cost 45USD online (about few hundred TTD). i got it sent to the courier address and they shipped it in and i picked it up. now they charged about $600 for me to pick it up. is this right?I know they want a handling charge, makes good sense, but then they included the cost of the original purchase, plus the holding charge?

if i had got the US firm to send it down, they would have charged air fare, and then for TTPost to deliver, but the total wouldn't over $1000 TTD that i paid. Have I got it wrong, or was I ripped off or what?

I think tou have indeed got skybox wrong as you have included the weight of the package nowhere in your post and i am sure the freight cost is what represents the majority of your charges as safes are by virtue heavy, sturdy items.

*edit* if i understand you correctly you say they charged you the "cost" of ur item? Meaning you paid again for the item? That is totally wrong and never happens.

Saw this ad, wanted to know if anyone had any actual experience with them. Currently with iBC, but thought I might give them a try.

Think the laptop was around US$320.
No idea of the breakdown but yes, OPT included.

This online tax is a ripoff ....it's not 7%.....they calculate seven % them add this on to the value then tax u on it....vat and duties ..so basically it's tax on a tax....what utter nonsense to fool the ppl and say 7 % ......I bought a small item came up to 161....without this tax it woulda be 126.....that's not just 7% .....which works up to be a 27% differences...don't be fooled ppl.....by this conman Imbutt it's not just 7 %

The same way he said vat will drop from 15-12.5% and everyone thought ok. Gas price will drop too.
Then he adjust the price of gas so that there will be no discount.

Yes but they add the opt onto the value and work out new duties and vat....which is a lot more than it would have been if your opt wasn't there and wasn't added on to the cif......your duties and taxes would be considerable less if the opt wasn't there

If money from opt was going into road system upgrades i would be cool with that. It is just of most importance to me that if we are going to pay higher taxes, the gov't cant fk up the money. It has to go to something beneficial that we can see or utilize, or reduces debt or something sure, other than having to find out it was invested and the investment failed so we lose half or all the money we had. The projects also have to be reasonably priced.. with penalties for underbidding and exhorbitant cost overruns. Finally contractors have to give the people of trinidad and tobago their best price, while paying their employees well. The mantra 'eat little live long' should be practiced here, and it begins on the personal level and benefits us all. Our focus now has to be more about developing our country than getting rich off of it, as businessmen, citizens and taxpayers all. Because there is no point to being rich in dollars whose value is reduced to nothing while u exploit the resources without taking proper care of the system that was put in place considering all factors, to allieve a nation of negative societal impacts.

We must do the right thing. Uncorrupt our culture starting with ourself, at the personal level. Force our associates to meet the requirements rather than unfairly adjust them to give them favour. We want the best. We must choose the best. And the best really has to be the best if you want the best, for your money and for the country.

YOu all are being fooled to just look at the opt and say yeah it's negligible...
You need to also account for the increase in your custom duties and vat due to the higher cif because of the opt.....
Do a calculation before the opt..work out your duties and vat
Then after opt work out duties and vat....
We are paying considerably more...than a negligible opt...the Increases are hidden In the new duties and vat given the added on cif becAuse of the opt...

Where did I mention that my post was about OPT?

$258 overall for something that big and heavy , I'm good.

The interesting thing would be to see how much I paid for a similar, smaller screen in 2015

I paid 20% duty on TTD price, and VAT on TTD price, and then a freight and handling price of $420. Weight is 23 lbs.

Ah guy in work brought in a few things (5) in 5 different occasions and he didn't pay any online tax. He doesn't know why they didn't charge him any. With IBC. Any body can shed some light on this?

Ordered an item recently, I've attached my invoice and I wish to point out the Exchange rate being used of TT$ 6.80: 1 USD... that's ridiculous!

Furthermore, I paid via credit card on their site and much to my dismay, the sole currency of the transaction was USD!

Force the use of a currency from another country, then apply your own exchange rate?

well from checking their site, I see now that they changed from their previous system of allowing payments in TTD.

I didn't order with them for almost a year and wasn't aware of the shift of their policies.

My bad, should've checked before ordering.
