Almost all sports franchises have a geographic name in their full team names. Its usually a city but because cricket in the WI is unique in that our domestic structure is country vs country and the WICB sold the domestic T20 to the franchise holders they naturally kept the country monikers.

City based names would make more sense however considering a lot of Caribbean countries have barely enough people to constitute a small to medium sized city I guess country names stuck.
