n an accident in which two men claimed they had the right of way, a motorcyclist was left seriously injured yesterday and his motorcycle broken into fragments.

The crash happened at the intersection at Chancery Lane, just outside the San Fernando General Hospital, shortly after 10 am, attracting scores of onlookers and creating a traffic pile-up along Independence Avenue.

Police said Jerrod Phillip was riding his Yamaha motorcycle onto Chancery Lane when he was struck by an old model Mitsubishi two-door pick-up driven by Carapichaima pensioner Tony Boodansingh who was entering the hospital from Harris Promenade.

Phillip, who was struck from the side, was thrown into the windscreen of the van before landing and sliding into the pavement. His helmet was also damaged and blood was seen in the slipway when passerby and hospital workers rushed to assist him

The funny thing is the M2 Ring Road/Pluck Road intersection is a 4 way stop intersection. Motorists arriving at the intersection have to yield to those who are already there. If an accident happens at this type of intersection, the vehicles should not be travelling more than 10km/h.

Trinidadians just love to disobey the laws in their own country but quick to follow the rules when they travel overseas.

Too many functionally illiterate Trinidadians are in possession of driver's permits.

MOWT-Traffic Management Branch needs to do an informative programme to remind road users of the meaning of the different colours of the traffic signals and the meaning of the different road signs.

Revive Rikki Tikki with Uncle Ian and Uncle Indar.

I beg to differ. There are stop signs and road markings for all directions to stop.

People don't understand how unsafe an unsecured load in a car is. He could have braked and died wit a case hitting his head before he even hit the truck

4way stop junctions are too dangerous for our drivers who don't know the rules.
Best they just put humps.

That intersection is now a 4 way stop. In the past the pluck road had right of way. To many accidents occurred like that; then made it a 4 way stop up until the time they paved over the stop markings on the m2. They then repainted the stop markings on the m2 but some on the m2 still think they have right of way.

Wonder how much of those accidents can be attributed to alcohol consumption and driving?

An early morning accident in Freeport has left seven people injured, with one of them having sustained serious injuries.

Eyewitness reports state that around Sun4.30 am, a B12 vehicle collided with another car on the left lane on the northbound Solomon Hochoy Highway, just before the Freeport Flyover exit.

A man was driving with a female occupant in the B12.

A male driver was the only occupant in the second car.

The second vehicle spun out of control from the impact, landing on the right side of the same side of traffic, crashing into a Hyundai Accent carrying four people.

All occupants of the vehicles were taken to hospital, with several of them still awaiting treatment.

The female occupant in the B12 suffered the most serious injuries. The remaining six received minor cuts and bruises.
