Advice needed to become a supplier

I want some advise on the procedure /process to become a registered supplier of equipment, lighting towers, and such equipment in different companies. .i just need a direction as to where to start as i am new to this..

The first question is why. You just woke up and decided to be an equipment supplier? Outlay is a lot and you're up against companies with millions of dollars in inventory. What kind of capital do you have to start with? What's your USP?

It wasnt a spur of the moment thought, but .more like a good will inheritance, so i trying to make the best of it...i know its a difficult market but i didnt invest much so i dont have much to loose rather than gain if i fall in the right areas...so any help will be appreciated

Hi, my advise to you, myself n any other persons starting up-

"Can you make a better burger than Mc Donald's or Burger King? Most likely yes
But can u make a better business plan than Mc Donald's or Burger King?"

Focus on writing a business plan and what you want to achieve and set target timelines, forget saturation and lastly the most expensive advice is free advice, so better ask someone who's doing this successful.

Call the companies and ask how to register/pre-qualify as a vendor. Also read the newspaper everyday for invitations to pre-qualify or bid. You should also visit their websites and see if you can register as a vendor there, example TSTT's etenders website.

You may need to have all or some of the following:
- Company Registration, VAT and Tax documents
- Audited financials
- Bank reference letters
- Client References
- Company Profile

The above advice is exactly what is required with minor variations from company to company. You should zero in on companies that use the items you have/have access to.
Try to build a relationship with the buyers (I am not talking bribe here). I have seen vendor databases with thousands of suppliers and buyers simply sending RFQ's to a very few repeatedly. Sometimes they do not do it maliciously but have gotten responses from these few. Also arrange small meetings (one on one etc) with user departments. For example, call for and arrange a meeting with the Facilities Manager if you can provide building goods/services. The user usually recommends some of the potential vendors to the Procurement Department.
