Those who say nothing will come off this are wrong. This is exactly the escalation Russia wanted in order to gain support for a war expanding this war. A war that only they can benefit.

I don't blame Obama, he's actually a great president, it's the republican majority in congress that has hamstrung his control of this situation.

This is undoubtedly getting very complicated and it seems all superpowers are playing all sides. ISIS has got their wish, won't be surprised if their next target is Saudi, which will further stir this gigantic mess.

Wow, you been drinking from the sheep trough havent you ??

It seems pretty evident that the shooting down was deliberate and perhaps they were acting on orders from higher up.

"A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity claimed the doomed jet had flown back to Syria after a brief incursion into Turkey's zone but was shot down in Syrian airspace.

Turkish authorities claimed the pilots dismissed 10 warnings in five minutes before the aircraft was blasted out of the sky in the northern Syrian Turkman mountains.

However according to the US source, an assessment of the jet's heat signature indicates it was inside neighbouring Syria's airspace at the time of the shooting - supporting the claims of Russian president Vladimir Putin.

A number of accounts suggest the Su-24 was in Turkish territory for just 17 seconds before it was attacked, crashing once it had crossed back into Syria."

My bet is that they will not escalate....Russia needs Turkey and vice versa....and with oil in the 40s both need to manage their mutual and independent economic interests.

In cold blooded geopolitics this is a good thing. It helps Turkey reassert itself as a potential protector of the Middle East and forces the West to reaffirm thier links to Turkey.

Right now there are three states and one nonstate seeking to lead the Middle East -- Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and IS. Of those four the one that will most help bring the Mid East into line with the modern era is Turkey.

Turkey was heading into that role during the Arab Spring but faltered when the Muslim Brotherhood was ousted in Egypt. Then they failed to have a plan for Syria . This allowed Saudi Arabia and Iran (and IS) to advance thier agendas forward.

The former Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force said that Turkey shooting down a Russian plane was a "very bad mistake and showed poor judgment."

Lt. Gen. Tom McInerney said on "Real Story" that a radar tracking map shows the plane crossing the very tip of Turkey, which he estimated lasted for 20-40 seconds, and on a trajectory back toward Syria.

^ That video right there, that General explains it all. You don't shoot people in cold blood because they edged at your border out in the middle of nowhere. And he is also right about Turkey president turning Turkey away from a secular country into an Islamic State pushing for Sharia Law.

RT may be lots of propaganda but I have no doubt that country Turkey is aiding ISIS. If Putin was ever right about anything he is right about this. Anytime someone tries to turn a country into an Islamic State and implement sharia law, trouble always follows. Man is a damn good thing that the invention of nukes ensure there will be no 3rd world war.

- Russian helicopter was shelled during the rescue mission, crashed into a hillside (one marine dead)
- 2nd Pilot eventually recovered (alive), says they received no warnings
- Turkey releases audio of warnings.....barely legible, but I'm guessing pilots are more accustomed to static sounding CB radio voice messages
- Turkey PM says he ordered (or possibly gave prior permission) to shoot down Russian jets entering their airspace
- Russia bombs Aid envoy in Syria, Azaz (border town with Turkey)

Turkey was protecting the turksmen, now russia knows turkey dont play ( after repeatedly violating turkey's airspace).
Having said that Russia is deploying S-400 Triumph surface-to-air missile system. things gonna get sticky, also would make it difficult for the USAF to fly f22 over syria because USA doesnt want the russians to know the f22 stealth profiles

Russian plane violated airspace for 17seconds gets shot down.
Meanwhile
http://neurope.eu/article/turkey-violated-greek-airspace-2244-in-2014/

Turkish officials acknowledged, according to leaked document sent to the UN, that the downed Russian Su-24 jet violated its airspace for tens of seconds.

A Senior Turkish official told Reuters about the strike: “The data we have is very clear. There were two planes approaching our border, we warned them as they were getting too close…Our findings show clearly that Turkish air space was violated multiple times. And they violated it knowingly.”

However, the justification that the Russian plane was hit because it entered Turkish airspace sparked a debate in Greece, as Turkish jets repeatedly violate the Greek airspace due to an ongoing sovereignty dispute between the two neigbour countries.

According to numbers from the Greek University of Thessaly, the Turkish Air Force committed a total of 2,244 violations of the Greek airspace in 2014, up from 636 in 2013. Moreover according to the Greek Air Force Headquarters, from January to October 2015, Greece’s airspace was violated 1,233 times including 31 flights over Greek territory itself.

^ Russia won't allow them to just bomb Syrian assets that will bring down Assad.

http://www.theatlantic.com/internationa ... in/408694/

Putin needs the deep warm water port in Syria for his navy. Its only that and Crimea he has else his navy is pretty much useless so its a matter of life and death for him. So Putin needs Assad, I am pretty certain a small war will break out with NATO/America and Russia but it will be confined in Syria and won't go beyond that.

We should see Russia shooting down NATO planes at some point but the result will be like Georgia. America will do nothing and will back down just as George Bush backed down from the Russians in Georgia. Congress will say its not worth risking a nuclear war with the world's largest nuclear power the same thing they said in Georgia.

Turkey was the seat of power of the last Islamic caliphate. ISIS has delusions of recreating that caliphate, they are both Sunni. Its no wonder Turkey allied itself with ISIS.

Turkey was responsible for committing the first genocide of the 20th century, they slaughtered over 1 million greeks. After that mass killing they turned their attention to the other non muslim group, the Armenian christians, they killed over 2 million of them. Turkey has never admitted committing the atrocity and has never paid any restitution to the survivors. God dont sleep, Turkey will get whats coming to it.

We know that Turkey is lying for three reasons.

One reason is that NATO governments lie every time that they open their mouths.

A second reason is that Turkey’s claim that the SU-24 was in Turkey’s airspace for 17 seconds but only traveled 1.15 miles means that the SU-24 was flying at stall speed! The entire Western media was too incompetent to do the basic math!

A third reason is that, assuming Turkey’s claim of a 17 second airspace violation is true, 17 seconds is not long enough for a Turkish pilot to get clearance for such a serious and reckless act as shooting down a Russian military aircraft. If the SU-24 was flying at a normal speed rather than one that would be unable to keep the aircraft aloft, the alleged airspace violation would not have been long enough to be noticed. A shootdown had to have been pre-arranged. The Turks, knowing that the Russians were foolishly trusting to the agreement that there be no air to air encounters, told pilots to look for an opportunity. In my recent article, I gave a reason for this reckless act:

No they aren't..............however the NATO constitution states that fellow member states must come to the aid of an under attack member.

Further, Turkey's application for entry into the EU as a member state is under further scrutiny as Erdogan takes the country from the secular state built by Mustafa Kemal and turns into an Islamic state.

Because American propaganda is more dangerous, they use it to justify destroying countries and killing innocent people.

Listen to their latest BS, they're now saying that The Syrian government is to blame for the refugee crisis. They created ISIS and AL Nusra and AL Qaeda but Assad is to blame. They pushing this on the public to justify bombing Syria. If there was no Al Nusra and No ISIS there would be no refugee crisis. They are destabilising their own allies in Europe because of their stupidity.

Remember this incident, John Kerry used fake photos to justify bombing Syria......they had no evidence to support their claims so they faked it. Typical of the US administration.

I posted this article on another thread in Trini Tuner but obviously people here havent read it. This is the story of how Libya was made a failed state, and it illustrates the carefull use of propaganda and lies to justify the assasination of a leader and the complete destruction of a sovereign country, led by the current US administration.

excerpts:

In eastern Libya, where the uprising began as a mix of peaceful and violent protests, Human Rights Watch documented only 233 deaths in the first days of the fighting, not 10,000, as had been reported by the Saudi news channel Al Arabiya. In fact, as I documented in a 2013 International Security article, from mid-February 2011, when the rebellion started, to mid-March 2011, when NATO intervened, only about 1,000 Libyans died, including soldiers and rebels. Although an Al Jazeera article touted by Western media in early 2011 alleged that Qaddafi’s air force had strafed and bombed civilians in Benghazi and Tripoli, “the story was untrue,” revealed an exhaustive examination in the London Review of Books by Hugh Roberts of Tufts University. Indeed, striving to minimize civilian casualties, Qaddafi’s forces had refrained from indiscriminate violence.

The best statistical evidence of that comes from Misurata, Libya’s third-largest city, where the initial fighting raged most intensely. Human Rights Watch found that of the 949 people wounded there in the rebellion’s first seven weeks, only 30 (just over three percent) were women or children, which indicates that Qaddafi’s forces had narrowly targeted combatants, who were virtually all male. During that same period in Misurata, only 257 people were killed, a tiny fraction of the city’s 400,000 residents.

The same pattern of restraint was evident in Tripoli, where the government used significant force for only two days prior to NATO’s intervention, to beat back violent protesters who were burning government buildings. Libyan doctors subsequently told a UN investigative commission that they observed more than 200 corpses in the city’s morgues on February 20–21 but that only two of them were female. These statistics refute the notion that Qaddafi’s forces fired indiscriminately at peaceful civilians.

Moreover, by the time NATO intervened, Libya’s violence was on the verge of ending. Qaddafi’s well-armed forces had routed the ragtag rebels, who were retreating home. By mid-March 2011, government forces were poised to recapture the last rebel stronghold of Benghazi, thereby ending the one-month conflict at a total cost of just over 1,000 lives. Just then, however, Libyan expatriates in Switzerland affiliated with the rebels issued warnings of an impending “bloodbath” in Benghazi, which Western media duly reported but which in retrospect appear to have been propaganda. In reality, on March 17, Qaddafi pledged to protect the civilians of Benghazi, as he had those of other recaptured cities, adding that his forces had “left the way open” for the rebels to retreat to Egypt. Simply put, the militants were about to lose the war, and so their overseas agents raised the specter of genocide to attract a NATO intervention—which worked like a charm. There is no evidence or reason to believe that Qaddafi had planned or intended to perpetrate a killing campaign.
