WTK: Equipment of Company for Waterlogged Carpet

Postby Evoloution » July 6th, 2015, 9:26 am

I have an area 15 X 15 with wall to wall carpet that is waterlogged from flood. Water came through from cracks in the ground. Does anyone rent equipment to handle this or do i need to call a company and if so which company.

I dont know the exact situation, but perhaps it may be better to take out, and put it outside to dry and evaluate the next steps from there? Either way you are going to have to remove it in order to fix/seal the cracks in the floor else risk it happening again.

BTW a damp carpet in hot & humid conditions does not create a nice smell

if it was not muddy nasty water,
get one of the big shopvacs like a 12gallon.
those can suck water out real fast
If place is aired out it should dry.

I shampoo and soak down my car sets IN the car and use that remove the water,
the seats are just damp after and will dry by next day.

You let moisture near the interior of your pug

Drop roof business.

Remove and discard the water logged carpet, fix the leak and then tile the area.

Also contact www.protectionplustt.com to do the waterproofing for you. They have a polymer that will prevent water and moisture from coming up through the ground and walls to prevent flooding of that area in the future. You can then put carpet back there without worry.

Your carpet no so big that you need a really big vacuum. 5 gallons will be plenty. Use a wet/dry vacuum to remove as much water as possible.
Spray the carpeting with a disinfectant - look for benzylkonium chloride on the label.
Vacuum the carpet dry and repeat.
Take a couple of box fans and use them to blow air across the carpeting.
If you start to get a mildewed smell, you should remove and reinstall the carpeting. It isn't that difficult.

If you're having trouble with scent afterwards, try some dry nescafe black coffee in a small container in the corner of the room. Depending on the size of course, it works like magic.
