Yeah, that's why its so good for trolling. It gets tedious for bottom fishing though because you lose freespool when you preset your drag. But I guess you only going after big sharks, tarpon with it lol. There's some pretty good levelwinds on the market, old school. The Shimano charter special is a steal, and has that name for good reason. The alternative is using a narrow, the fathom 25n or 40n, much easier to thumb and the added torque mechanics.

I don't trust level winds for trolling...when ah nice fish take off I sure d level wind parts will get destroyed...I hav ah pen fathom 40 I used for fishing...works great for casting an deep dropping...

Thats exactly what i was wondering ryan... unless someone used a level wind trolling and it stood up over a few big strikes.

It's a matter of demand and design really, lots of big fish have been caught on levelwinds since charter guys want their customers to have an easy time handling conventionals for the first time. the argument has always been that it's another unnecessary point of failure and rightly so since most guys who fish seriously learn to manually guide line in the first place.

As a result, most manufacturers don't design heavy duty levelwinds, so you'll find plastic drivegears and cheaper materials generally with the exception of good companies. If the demand goes up, I'm sure we'll be seeing some much better quality lw reels. Take for example that pe 7 reel from jigging master, jm specialises in jigging gear and you can see the kind of fish those japanese guys are constantly after.

Crappo! lol
Lots of great fish, look up tropical estuary species. Majority of common species use them for reproductive purposes, hatcheries and food. My favourites are tarpon, jacks, snappers, snook and bait lol particularly in our main wetlands like caroni and nariva.

Went and bank around chac and outside d third bocas today, caught a few fish and when coming back in outside d second bocas, fishes murdering balls of red sardines.

Dad had a rod with a spoon and caught a 7 lb bonito and a 15 lb tuna I think, not sure wat kind though casting near d action. Cavalli, bonito, tuna was together getting on bad bad. Lol

Water was real nice today too.
