That's what I saying four CCTV shipments in September 2014 all charged duty and vat. Doesn't matter if you have kit on invoice.

We really in a banana republic u kno. Nobody cares, service levels at an all time low, banking in a state, customs in a mess, people driving like mad.

Something in the Hansad is not even law 3 years in the future...

Dear Members,

CSF has been notified by the Comptroller of Customs & Excise that effective September 11th, 2014, the Import Duty of twenty percent (20%) and Value Added Tax (VAT) of fifteen percent (15%) has been reinstated on all items classified as Security Equipment, by the order of Customs & Excise.

We have contacted officials of the Customs & Excise and are awaiting the official documentation; rest assured that we will keep you informed as the information progresses.

I asked someone who is a customs official. I was told that the document regarding the removal of the taxes expired. It is up to government to state its position and officially notify customs as to what will be done regarding these taxes.

They had put it back on a while now.
If you bring a complete system they don't charge.
However it must include Cameras, DVR and a Monitor I had a system come in this morning paid over $4000 because there was no monitor included this is absolute nonsense...

4000 in taxes? For one system?

N yup its ridiculous, we paying taxes while the bigger companies hiding the cameras between their computer parts and not paying a cent on whole containers.

I also paid the full duties & taxes on a 8-Channel w/8 CAMs & a Hard-drive,
I contacted the company (Aeropost) for verification, and said that the system MUST be include a Monitor.

Most camera systems via Amazon etc... now DON'T include a Monitor.

(I paid about 1800 in shipping & customs)

Brought in one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121168794855?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Quite happy with the results. DVR is quite small.

These were the charges:
Charge Description Amount Due (TT$)
Customs Duty $ 171.50
Import VAT $ 154.35
Air Freight Service $ 143.86
Fuel Surcharge $ 24.46
Insurance $ 12.96
VAT on Local Handling $ 0.75
TOTAL $ 507.88

I believe they supposed to have drawn up laws to govern the importation of these goods, same as the laws on taxes for the importation of goods under the lcl codes for smaller business men,yet to be implemented.
