Not much Trinis know of this in present times.
It was a big event about 30 years ago for Hindus and Catholics that are south based. It's more known as the Siparia fete and the religious aspect has slowly been diminishing over a fete.

Nah Siparia fete is something different. The fete is month end this year I believe. The celebrations that took place last night is more of a flee market kind of thing as well as an opportunity to attend the mass that they have plus give to the poor. It's not as big as it used to be in past years though.

Went there around 5:00am, as I heard it gets crowded very quickly; turns out it had people there from the night before, and those who went much earlier in the morning. The market was there from Wednesday, and was just an opportunity for people to 'make ah money', but bootleg dvds, and sexy panty have fi sell oui.
On the inside of the RC school/ church compound, there were a bunch of able bodied men, and very fertile women, along with their droves of children, camping out on the floors of the courtyard, waiting for handouts. The inside of the church was typically serene, and the statue behaved like all others you've seen before, although one thing did kind of irk me a bit. As per custom, people were placing offerings next to the statue, but when a young lady tried offering a bottle of coconut oil, she was told "that's not Christian," and she was shown an area where she could purchase some olive oil instead :/
Beyond all that though, I have to say kudos to the TTPS for their presence around the area; place didn't seem sketchy, but it was reassuring to see them at almost every major corner, and their continuous mobile patrolling. Oh, and I like the idea of the public restroom building with on site attendant, on the main street. While I'm on Siparia kudos, the Daisy Voisin statue, car park area, and the view from the lot are really nice, I hope the lot is utilized.
