Logitech Z-5300e or Price equivalent Home Theater Setup?

Postby Archvile » February 26th, 2015, 11:48 am

Need some opinions on this, very short window of opportunity here.

I'm getting a sealed, new Z 5300e system, and i'm considering getting one because I know they perform well and my last computer speaker setup went kaput...however I also know these systems are at least 8 years old.

Should I look for something else in a similar price range, such as a Home Theater Setup, or should I jump on this opportunity.

Speakers/setup will be used with a Desktop (with a SB Recon 3d sound card) and may have need to be used with a HTPC (on-board audio)

P.S. > I'm considering this offer because the 5300's are pretty decent computer speakers and they are available for a short time only. It's not that i'm in a desperate need for a Home Theater system and i'm trying to find a budget system, however if a better, modern system can be had for around the same price, it would be a reason not to jump on the offer, hence the reason i'm asking for opinions.

Thoughts?

I've had experience with other systems from that time, the Z 2300, Z5500 etc, however not the 5300 so much. I have seen reviews, however none to compare it to modern systems .My main concern is that even though it was a really good system at the time, can it compete with systems in recent times.

Manufacturers these days focus more on Headsets or 2.1 setups for computer systems, so options are pretty limited when it comes to 5.1 setups.

Looking for an opinion/ advice from someone who has some experience with this setup and a newer setup.

Have a problem with Logitech @ pioneer?

Don't see why not, see if you can get a demo. The z-5500 was well received and rated well amongst the community of avs and hts if I remember correctly.

The 5500 was the one to get back in the day. If you were getting that one I would have told you to jump on it cuz those things last and sound great.

The 5300 doesn't seem like all that. If you getting it at a ridiculously good price then, yeah, why not. Plus if it's just for your computer and not the main sound system for you house then go ahead. But you will find it lacking if you try to have a big get together with that.

BTW what price we talking about here? Anything over $1000 don't make sense.

Anything but Klipsch doesn't make sense.

I concur. I was hoping that logitech would have followed up with a worthy successor but the z3300 falls woefully short.

BTW I still have my z5500 after eight years and it still going strong even though I had to replace ALL the drivers. The only company manufacturing anything like the Z5500 is Edifier. I've been lusting after their S760D model which seems to be the successor to the logitechs. I do believe that Edifier may have manufactured the Z5500 for logitech.

It's kinda pricey at US$900, and not available locally, but for that price it's an excellent all-round system. Especially when compared to other expensive, 'name brand' systems that only serve to boost their owners egos. I've listened to more expensive offerings from Bose, Klipsch, Sony, etc. and at the end of the day the difference isn't worth the extra US$1000 or US$2000.
