The five North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) officers, held aboard a yacht with an El Socorro drug lord last Friday, have been transferred.
Senior police sources told the Express that the officers—an acting segeant, an acting corporal and three constables—have been transferred with immediate effect.
The acting sergeant is expected to pick up duty at the Community Policing Unit, while the other four were transferred to police stations within the North Eastern Division.
The Express understands that the NEDTF officers were released on Friday night pending investigations by detectives of the Professional Standards Bureau.
According to the Coast Guard, around 11.36 a.m. on Friday, the NEDTF officers were guests on a yacht Cross 1 when they were intercepted by the Coast Guard Special Naval Unit (SNU).
The yacht was stopped in the vicinity of Carerra Island and the officers were among 26 individuals aboard.
The SNU officers recognised the drug lord on the vessel and ordered the yacht to be stopped for a search to be conducted.
Sources say a transmission was made over the wireless that Coast Guard officers had intercepted a vessel and wanted to conduct searches.
Officers of the Inter Agency Task Force responded and, upon arrival, noticed their colleagues from the NEDTF, the known El Socorro drug lord and other occupants on the yacht.
Four firearms were found, three of which belonged to the officers, while the fourth belonged to an ex-police officer.
The ex-officer, sources say, told the SNU officers that his firearm user’s licence was lodged at a police station.
