No more Skoda Octavia at Sterling

Postby Crix » April 9th, 2014, 2:37 pm

I'm in the market for a new Car. Currently own a 2003 Skoda Octavia.

I contacted Sterling today to ask about the availability of new models at which point they inform me that they are no longer stocking SKODA due to the fact that SKODA has decided to terminate 'direct shipping' to Trinidad. Attempts to find a new source for SKODA vehicles results in a price bump on an Octavia of 100k :P

So, I was wondering if anyone else on tuner will join me in creating a petition / request to SKODA to resume shipping directly to Trinidad?

Anyone interested?

Well they probably terminated it because of poor sales in this market? Why would they reimplement it for 1-100 persons to buy a car?

Not sure what the sales figures / rates were, but as far as I can tell, it's not 1 - 100 at all. Octavia's are very popular alternatives to the VW's and Audi's that generally cost a whole lot more and share a large percentage of the same parts.

I can ask if they can give me any information on the sale figures of Octavias, Yetis and Superbs.

Either it doesn't 'cost' us anything to support the petition. If Skoda raises a sales quota issue, fine, we can still make a case and rally support.

Crix about 2 weeks ago I spoke to a sales rep at Sterling and he said that they would like to bring the new Octavia but the price would be a bit high 275k fully loaded. So he said they are still trying to work out a better price for them hopefully later on in the year or early next year. However if someone really wants it they could order. The Octavia is a really good car and I also own a 2003 model myself, but if you compare the market now with the Volkswagen jetta for 255k and they are also bringing a Jetta trendline 1.4 turbo for 210k Sterling would be at a lost for selling a Skoda for 275k.

Before I owned my octavia I had the concept that these cars were problematic. I was so wrong. I spent more on my camry than on this euro. Longer service intervals and a rock solid suspension make sure of this. Big loss if skoda leaves our shores

I've always found the Octavia to be lacking in comfort. The interiors seem so overly functional.
For me, there are just too many other cars that I'd prefer to buy brand new over an Octavia

I have seen quite a number of new pugs and renaults on the roads. Anyone know where these are coming from?

Its just an opinion. Im no expert, but I found other cars more appealing than the octavia.
I didnt like the fabric they used on the seats - Camry, Accord used much nicer fabrics.
I didnt like the Materials they used with the Dash - Felt very basic to me.

Otherwise the car seemed fine. Just not something I would have picked over the Accord, Camry, VW, etc.

Well pal it appears you compared the octy to bigger and more expensive mid size saloons. The quality of a Camry interior is expected to be higher than that of an Octavia although I don't see much of an advantage IMO. When u compare it to a e141 corolla or the civic, Almera, Mazda 3, elantra/cerato u quickly realize that it can hold its own. But your opinion is respected thanks for sharing.

Came back to the thread today not thinking that there would be much chatter, but was happy to see the convo still going.

Sharing so many parts with the Jetta and having so may Audi components under the hood, I do believe that the Octavia's present a great *cheaper* alternative to both VWs and Audis (poor man's version?)

These videos illustrate that Skoda is beginning to differentiate itself with it's own unique design.

I got pretty stoked when I saw this video for the 2014 vRS:

Concept for the 2015 version.

Say what you will - Ask any Skoda owner and 90% of the time they'll be happy with their ride.
