They didn't really specify if the tins that were stolen had juice in them. Could be plain cans and covers before they go through the manufacturing line to fill them. That would make their statement plausible.

And so they're claiming responsibility for the fact that there is a chance the cans belong to them but Not the cocaine inside nor the label outside.

They shoulda just stuck to the story of "them is not we cans or labels!!"

What baffles me is that if juice was stolen in cans from them, the "bad guys" woulda had to open the cans, all 700 of them, empty the juice, clean the cans, pack the cocaine inside the can, reseal the can.
When the DEA release clearly stated the cans were in tact and not tampered with.

Meemknowwhattobelieve

if the cans of juice were stolen, then why did they need to re-label the cans

Emptying however many ounces of juice from cans and washing them before packing the cocaine will destroy or blemish a paper label.

What if SMJ deliberately produced a batch of 'bad' labels , solely for use on the cocaine cans?
In that way , they could use the alibi that they are using now.

Were the cans were already packaged or were they 'stolen' before being filled with 'product'?

(can't open the link from work)

Is it really irrelevant?

Suppose this was not the first "theft" of hundreds of tins of fruit juices?

You both raise good concerns and would help answer many questions here.

Idk how many of you have worked in laventille, especially in a compound that backs into the Hills. Robberies around Christmas, carnival and any big fête etc are a common occurrence. They've even sent little children over 12'high barbed wire walls to get in. This may have been the reason for the delay in reporting. Trinidad juice is thought to be more stolen because it carries a higher price per case than say, a case of busta or chubby.

funny dat they would go out of their way to compare a picture to their product. I am almost certain that pictures of colours can vary from what the naked eye can see. They cant compare it from a picture until they see the actual cans. Added to the fact that the image they comparing has the can at an angle while their image is front facing. Also, why didnt they challenge the authenticity of the grapefruit can? because it is the same colour as their product  Last but not least why would the drug dealers print different colours for the product they trying to counterfeit. :|

What you're saying makes sense UML, but you have to realise, the execs at SMJ are trying to work with what little info they have to defend their company.

SMJ has issued a "NO RECALL" as the US authorites has cleared the product as well as clearing 4 containers yesterday.

As per not reporting stolen drinks as it happens, the stock carryed at the warehouse is in the multiple hundred thousand range. To indentify this as it happens is impossible unless it was obvious i.e. wall broken or security tied and place robbed.

And as per TOYOPET statement, at all our warehouse locations this brand is most vandalised and the reason is as stated cost.

Some of the detectives here really made for TTPS....

Do you know how large a typical manufacturing warehouse is??

Most times you may not know sometime is missing unless its in large quantities or if there is some sort of vandalism involved.

Eventually info will come out when charges are laid etc, so lets wait before we deem SMJ guilty.

Besides if the Man wanted to export all that drugs why use cans and labels from his product lines?? If its ever found, it would bring unwanted attention to your operations and negative brand image.

Two tongues which were found in a glass jar by security guards in the car-park of Trinicity Mall recently, have been identified by police as cow tongues. It is now believe that it was a Veterinary student's prank and has no connection to the $600 million dollar cocaine bust as previously believed.

^^I watch nuff CSI to know my $hit!! :P

Recall was done for Pear-D 20oz even though SMJ was cleared and bottle was found to be tampered with.

No Recall on the Trinidad Juice even though SMJ is cleared, and tins are showing no signs of tampering.

Trying to make sense of this all..

PEAR-D 20OZ VOLUNTARY RECALL
We have been informed by the Hampshire Constabulary, U.K., of the death of Joromie Lewis, who succumbed shortly after consuming a contaminated 20oz Pear-D on December 5, 2013 in Southampton, Hampshire, UK. The Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed during their investigations that the bottle was tampered with and contained fatal amounts of liquid cocaine.

Since we, the manufacturers of Pear D, do not export this product to the United Kingdom, we can only assume that the product entered the United Kingdom through irregular and unauthorized means and is therefore considered contraband. This was evidenced by the fact that the best before date on the bottle seems to have been compromised. Furthermore the label on the bottle of the contaminated drink was not in compliance with the UK label regulations and could not have entered or passed through customs in the UK through its ports of entry.

As a precautionary measure, we would like to take this opportunity to advise the Trinidad and Tobago public that any product still in the market, from the batch containing the code BB JAN 08 14, which included this particular bottle is currently being voluntarily recalled.

Pear D has 25 years of trust, quality and family tradition in Trinidad and Tobago and as a Company we are shocked and saddened to see our product abused and used in such a sinister manner. Our deepest condolences are extended to the family and loved ones of Joromie Lewis at this time.

SM Jaleel has been and will continue to assist the Hampshire Constabulary with their investigations regarding this tragic matter.

You really out to get SMJ today Pandora.

On a serious, in the case of the pear d issue, the drug was mixed with SMJ product and their was a batch number to recall. In this case, SMJ isn't sure if it is their can and also what was in the tin appeared to be all cocaine, not a mixture of our product and the drug.

On a personal note, it amazes me to see how quickly trinis are ready to jump to conclusions and condemn a local manufacturer without knowing all the facts.

A scanned label would print darker due to increased dot gain. It would explain the dark green and red. You see this all the time with pirate DVD covers.
