Nov 5 (Reuters) - Sony Corp plans to charge a monthly fee of $9.99 in the United States and 6.99 euros ($9.40) in Europe for playing multiplayer online games on its PlayStation 4 (PS4) console scheduled to debut this month, the Nikkei business daily reported without citing sources.

Multiplayer games can be played for free on PlayStation 3.

Sony plans to charge 500 yen ($5.00) a month for multiplayer games in Japan when the new console debuts in February, the Nikkei said.

Sony plans to make PS4 more attractive by including more social networking functions, such as the ability to chat with fellow players, the business daily reported.

Microsoft Corp's Xbox One will also launch this month.

If thats the case then thas rel failure... Imagine paying $9.99 US a month to 'play' a game YOU just 'purchased'... Pfft...

Paying $400-$500 for COD Ghost then an additional $60 a month to play the multiplayer... rotfl.

PS+ subcribers have always been paying for PS+

it simply means that "online gaming" is now included under the umbrella of what PS+ offers, in addition to free/discounted content that u previously, and will still, be getting

I laughed at PS+ till I tried it. Benefited from loads of games I've wanted to play but was too cheap to buy.

with the rush to get one the price will be higher.

With just a week until the PlayStation 4 hits stores in North America, the company has revealed a trio of surprises for PlayStation 4 buyers when they receive their units on launch day. As part of a special promotion, Sony will include $10 credit for its PlayStation Store, which can be used to against games, music or movies, a free 30-day membership to PlayStation Plus and a 30-day trial for its Music Unlimited streaming service. Sony appears to be onboarding gamers in the hope they'll enjoy its multiplayer gaming and media services enough to stump up the cash for a full subscription. The company says the offer is available for a limited period, and that its music offer will only apply to new users.

PS4 games are the same price as ps3 games are now, I'm guessing after the ps4 is released many ps3 games will drop. So ps4 games should not be any different regarding price, except for gold/collector's/limited editions.

I haven't seen a ps4 game on amazon for more than $60, so I'm not worried.
