When I bought my d7000 I walked in best Buy and bought it. Even bought an extended warranty. If anything goes wrong with it in two years cArry it to pal (the agent for nikon in trinidad) and get it repaired and e mail the bill. They will refund the money. If it can't be fixed they will ship me a new camera.

I look at it like save in the short run with a grey market model that has no warranties or spend a little more and get an original with a warranty that would be honoured any where in the world.

That being said I would buy a grey market tripod or soft box if the price is right but never a camera or lens

Someone asked me my opinion on if to purchase an import camera or USA with their purchase of a dslr. The most I could have told them is that with import or grey market you basically get no manufactures warranty or support for nikon. Also that you don't get the original packaging I.e original batteries, manual etc. But with import, you'd get a really reasonable price and some nice bundles. Which the person is actually looking at.

But like I said, personal experience In Terms of does it make sense (like battery life) knowing that you have an original product.

Feedback appreciated.
keh.com, buy used. Tuner classified is full of good stuff too. I don't really care about shutter count. Unless it has over 50,000 actuations, whatever you buy will outlast it's relevance in the manufacturers' update cycle.

I think the only people who should buy a camera new are professionals who area king enough money and are registered as such to avoid the customs rape.

I don't really like to buy used stuff, especially electronics so I'm okay paying the price for new stuff, especially because it includes a warranty. Manufacturers refurbished may be another route for persons looking for a better deal

guys.... best way to buy camera gear??

Buy Online and ship through courier to Trini?
Buy in US and bring it in carry on?
Or buy locally?

If buying online or in store (US) what sites or stores?

Thanks for feedback

I know someone with the Tammy and she is happy with it , but do know that ALL of the super zooms give up something for that great range none are 100% but of them all that Tammy has the best reviews then I guess the Sigma 50-500 mm Duane has or had one of those Sigma's , I have the 150-500 mm Sigma .

I have older version nikon and was pretty good from new.
Lent it to a friend and he broke it, he sent it to a nikon repair center and it is actually sharper and better than new now.
They say factory doesnt check lens as much as repair places.

Have a tamron 70-300 also which evrybody raves about but i still think the nikon better even though shorter.

Wait for sale on amazon, adorama or b&H and buy. Ship to a relative away or hotel, let them bring it without the box so you don't get taxed. probably order a bag for it one time .

Well crop bodies sensor has a multiply factor of 1.5 because of the size of the sensor itself. It's relatively small compared to a full frame 35mm sensor on a full frame camera body. So imagine any lens u put on your crop body Dslr you have to multiply the range by 1.5. So a 50mm on a crop will be 75mm you will really get. A 35mm will be equal to 52.5 mm which is closer to the original 50mm lens on a full frame sensor.
