thanks for the response so far ,but whats the cost of the charge? is it a fixed charge or its dependent on the time over the 7 day period?

There is a charge and it depends on the time span between receipt and the day u go in.
I was charged $200 over two week period because the previous owner drivers permit had expired when we went to transfer. But they kept the documents, so I couldn't do a new receipt .

Just do an appropriately dated receipt if possible.

They call it a penalty at licensing and it goes for any Change e.g. ownership, colour, engine, etc
I believe it's $200 not sure thou.
My advice do it within the 7 days if bout do over a receipt that is less than 7 days.

Best suggestion is to have a new receipt made on the day of the transfer

Always wondered about this. Current & last car were never transferred to my name but they were bought from family so I didn't mind

according to the motor vehicle & road traffic act, under sect19(5) the transfer must be done within 7days, if this is not done the reg owner is liable the licensing authority a penalty of$200.00

under sect 19(6) if the transfer is not effected within 14days the reg owner is guilty of an offence and is liable to a fine of $5000.00 and 6months imprisonment.
not to sure if any ammendments were made.
