Here is my livebait rig for tarpon and most other inshore/light offshore fishing....
I always use fluorocarbon for its stealth but mainly for its abrasion resistance which makes ALL the difference in my opinion. I generally tie an albright knot to connect the mono and fluoro and a clinch knot onto the hook....thats basically it, really simple and effective tarpon rig.
I also included a pic of a float that i also use to keep the bait at excatly the depth i want it as well as a visual aid as to where my bait is/how much line i have out
Lastly, always freeline live baits. If you close the bail and there is tension on the bait is doesn't look natural and fish tend to overlook it. Pics aren't the best but its too simple to mess up.

Personal preference bro, I use it when they are coming up for air a lot, that way I know if my bait is in the zone, especially if I'm anchored up and drifting baits back...

When we're fishing the river, we use a float with the live red tailed sardines and plunk it as you would a popper for noise and splash. Brings em in like a doubles man lol.

This is a pic i found on the web searching for the species, caught it on the beach directly after you pass the area of mayaro where all the expat houses are, there's a bridge there and a lone lifeguard booth.

That not lookin like a Barbay. Barbay doesn't have a slim shape and the head does be sort of slanted to the front!!
