SHELL HELIX DRIVEN TO EXTREMES is a 3 part television series that will be featured on the Discovery Channel this month & was commissioned by Shell to put its premium motor oil, Shell Helix Ultra, to the ULTIMATE test! It features some of the world's most extreme driving challenges in the coldest, hottest and roughest locations on earth.

The first episode of Driven to Extremes features Hollywood actor Tom Hardy and former Formula One racing driver Mika Salo. The pair travel in a Nissan Patrol from the coldest city in the world, Yakutsk, along the Kolyma Highway, also known as the ‘Road of Bones’, to one of the coldest inhabited places on earth, Oymyakon, where the temperature reached –56°C.

First episode was great

vehicle was running non-stop for more than 7 days

esp loved teh part where the put different brands and grades of engine oils out in the atmosphere to freeze

4.2L N/A Diesel FTW . . . firetruck the electronics

just goes to show that the basic non-turbo models have their advantages to the higher powered more complicated loaded turbo models

The third and final episode of Shell Helix Driven to Extremes was filmed in one of the roughest, wettest places on earth: the rainforest of southern Malaysia
In this episode, former Formula One racing Driver Mika Salo and Oscar-winning Hollywood actor Adrien Brody take on the extreme challenge of driving across the rainforest of southern Malaysia along the treacherous Ulu Sedili Trail to Kampong Peta
